My Heel Straps

ChrisH - 4-1-2012 at 05:22 PM

Just wanted to share my heel straps that I made today. Made them out of an old set of snowboard bindings, using the top (thicker/longer) strap. Went down to the hardware store and picked up some screws, nuts, washers and some little pipe clamp thingy's. I think they're for hanging pipe but I'm not sure. Anyway, they have turned out great and they're super comfortable. They're not very flexible so they don't move out of the "sweet spot" when I accidentally hit them with my shoe. I have several people that ride my buggy so I wanted something that was adjustable and I thought this was perfect for it, ratchet straps and all!:wee: Btw, the long screw doesn't get in the way at all or I would've gotten a new one by now. :) I may or may not cut the foam to make them a little more narrow, they feel fine so far so I'm going to leave them be for now. Hope you like....

Can't figure out why the images are bad, they are fine when I preview the post....any help?

The IMG tag doesn't like pulling from the gallery directly because it runs a PHP script.

Just a link to the first of the 3 images should be enough to get folks there....

WRT straps.... you might want to periodically check the ladders for stress fractures.

Thanks for posting the link! I will definitely be checking the ladders, luckily I have an extra set if they do fail. I would think there's a lot more stress put on the straps while snowboarding than there would be just resting my foot in them so I think they'll last but only time will tell.

Chris,
Your heel straps are very similar to the lower half of dirtslide's hobbles. He uses another set of MTB bindings over the top of his feet so they do not bounce out of the heel straps. So far he has had no problem with the ratchet straps breaking, but i will be telling him to check them for cracks.

Oh cool! Good to know the straps are holding up over time! : )

Was able to actually put these to use today and they work really well. They are super comfortable and they hold my feet perfectly. The only problem I had is that the heel of my shoe got stuck in the right stirrup and I just had to shake my foot instead of lifting it out of the stirrup. That only happened once and it's not a big deal anyway so these are working perfectly for me. :)
