sweet, all that beach for two of us :bigok:

Morrie Williams - 12-1-2012 at 07:51 PM

If Alvord is dry at that time, it will be a tough decision. If it's wet, I'll be at Sunset for sure!

kiteboyza - 12-1-2012 at 08:19 PM

look out, Morrie is dusting the camper off, the roads will be a dangerous place

csa_deadon - 13-1-2012 at 05:37 AM

Hmmmm Sunset or Alvord?

I hate trying to make decisions like this! :flaming:

sand flea - 13-1-2012 at 08:44 AM

Thats an easy one for me, I'm going to Sunset!
I can hardly friggin wait!
I look forward to seeing all of you there.
Chris

ChrisH - 4-3-2012 at 07:48 PM

What are the exact dates for SOBB May? I realize it's somewhere between the the 26th and the 30th but would like to know the exact dates. Thanks in advance.

Morrie Williams - 4-3-2012 at 08:43 PM

According to Jon, it's May 26 - June 3.

stetson05 - 5-3-2012 at 12:55 PM

I thought it was the week before starting the 19th.

Morrie Williams - 5-3-2012 at 02:22 PM

They moved it due to better tides.

ChrisH - 7-3-2012 at 11:57 PM

Ok, great. Thanks Morrie!

vwbrian - 8-3-2012 at 10:53 AM

I'll be there not sure what days yet.

macboy - 8-3-2012 at 12:59 PM

Last weekend Kiteboyza put it into perspective for me and informed me it was the end of May. There just might be enough separation between coming home from Maui May 3rd and the end of the month for me to sneak away for the weekend. Especially 'cuz I know I can't come for SOBB Fall.

Gonna play this one carefully and hope I can score a weekend on the beach here. :fingers crossed:

kiteboyza - 9-3-2012 at 11:18 AM

macboy - 9-3-2012 at 03:44 PM

Well, the cat's outta the bag. We'll see how this goes

tdmc96 - 9-3-2012 at 05:24 PM

NABX is out for me this year as the cruise I took in the fall turned out to be more expensive than I had planned so I'll be heading to SOBB in May
I should arrive very early on the 24th and leave on the 28th

See you all then.

Bladerunner - 10-3-2012 at 10:57 AM

I am in a similar boat to Ken 3 . It is vacation days that I come up short on though. I have taken the different route. Choosing NABX over spring SOBB. Fall SOBB is still on the Vaca' calender . May, just may be out though.

WIllardTheGrey - 10-4-2012 at 09:52 AM

With any luck I'll be there 31st to 3rd. Anyone planing on staying that long?

csa_deadon - 10-4-2012 at 09:09 PM

kiteboyza - 12-4-2012 at 04:11 PM

WIllardTheGrey - 12-4-2012 at 04:14 PM

sand flea - 12-4-2012 at 06:32 PM

Will Buggy Camp be open?

kiteboyza - 12-4-2012 at 08:26 PM

Willard, get there a day earlier dude as I'll be leaving early morning 31st.

Sand Flea, what model were them tomatoes, almost time to grow my own. Will yours be ready in May?

sand flea - 13-4-2012 at 07:38 PM

That was a Japanese Tomotaro tomato. I am glad you liked them, they were very good.
And they won't be ripe until August but I am going to grow extra just for you...... so I guess you will have to come to the Fall event too!
Wonderful!
See ya soon
Chris

Dagon - 15-4-2012 at 10:46 AM

I am likely to come May 25-28. I went to SOBB in 2008 but I dont remember where to go or any of that. Can someone give me some direction as to where buggy camp will be? google earth coordinates?

Morrie Williams - 15-4-2012 at 11:39 AM

I just talk to Phil Thompson and he said buggy camp will be open. Please help Phil with a donation to cover expenses at buggy camp.

USA_Eli_A - 16-4-2012 at 10:12 PM

jellis - 17-4-2012 at 10:18 AM

shudder at the threesome

Dagon - 24-4-2012 at 11:10 AM

Looks like I will be there May 26-30.
I have a few questions:
How important are bigfoot tires out there? I imagine there is quite a wide runable surface when the tides are right.
Does the wind often come straight on from the coast or is it at a pretty good angle.
So can we camp at buggy camp? I am wondering if I should get a hotel or just bring a tent and sleeping bag.

csa_deadon - 24-4-2012 at 05:12 PM

If you want to run up near the dunes bigfoots are a must. However there is plenty of beach for std tires.
Camping is allowed at buggy camp. We do pass the hat to help offset the cost of the port-a-potty and other expenses that Phil incures during the event.

Shudder you say, but  with it I see

tdmc96 - 25-4-2012 at 12:09 PM

Not that it matters to me but.....just wondering how the entrance to the beach is.
Is it the same as last septembers SOBB or have they smoothed it out?

Ken (K3)

jellis - 25-4-2012 at 07:24 PM

Sunset Beach approach has been plowed and is very hard.

kiteboyza - 26-4-2012 at 07:27 AM

less than a month....:bouncy:

MDK - 26-4-2012 at 08:38 AM

I cant make it this year :( but I was promised that can make it next year :) will it be around the same time?

doddg - 26-4-2012 at 08:52 AM

I am confused on the dates of this event, is it 26-4? I am invited to the Ocean shores kite festival, I was planning on flying to Seattle on May 31st for the festival which is the 2nd and 3rd. I would be interested in coming earlier in the week like monday or Tuesday and leaving on Friday. will anyone be there? trying to swing it since Ocean Shores Wash is only 2.5 hours away. How many are going? I would be interested in camping, but I would have to send my stuff out earlier i guess, I only have weight room for buggies and kites...

Don't forget that there's also one in the fall, starts Labor Day weekend thru the following weekend.

The event starts Memorial Day weekend and runs thru the following weekend, That's Sat May 26 thru Sun June 3. 5 or 6 will be there starting Sat May 26. This is a relatively small event compared to Wildwood and since this is the first year attendance may be low.

doddg - 26-4-2012 at 11:52 AM

as long as there are a few there, that's ok. I just dont want to go alone! Since I will be out that way anyway, I have to try......anymore camping details?

Morrie Williams - 26-4-2012 at 11:54 AM

Does anyone have an extra tent and sleeping bag that Dodd would be able to use for SBBB? He's flying in and can't carry anymore gear.

jellis - 26-4-2012 at 02:38 PM

Canada, Texas, California, Washington, Idaho and Oregon will have buggiers representing their states at the Spring SOBB. Pot luck every evening at buggy camp except for the first Sunday which will be at our home 90489 Lewis rd Sunset Beach starting around 7 pm. Serloin burgers will served, so bring those beans, potato salid or what ever tastes good with your burger. See Y'all Soon.

ok, officially, I'm in and very excited to be joining you at SOBB! Skydog kites is buying my ticket from BWI to Portland Org, I will rent a car and hopefully arrive around dinner time Monday Memorial day night, stay through Friday, then drive to OCean Shores Washington to participate with their kite festival and conduct my Flight Schools (dual line). See you soon!

doddg - 2-5-2012 at 07:35 AM

any one have an address for the event? Ive been trying to google and there is no such thing as Sunset beach according to goggle maps...i even put in the address above and nothing. I am trying to figure out which airport to use and how to get there from portland. Thanks.

And my good friends at

doddg - 2-5-2012 at 08:42 AM

thank you, that took care of everything. There were no good flights for Seattle unfortunately, but Portland is just a bit further, no biggy.
Another question: Are standard tires enough for this beach? If not, I have big foot tires but it will cost a lot to bring them, but if I need them, I will PAY! I have learned. It is better to pay now, than not be able to buggy while others with big foot tires are passing you! LOL So I should arrive Monday pm and have 3 full days of buggying! Thanks for your help everyone, I look forward to being part of buggy camp.

Morrie Williams - 2-5-2012 at 09:26 AM

Hey Dodd,

Here's a map from Portland Intl to Buggy Camp and Sunset Beach.

Dod no worries just bring the small tires. We will have Bigfoot buggies for you to use if you want.

doddg - 2-5-2012 at 05:19 PM

Thank you jon. Do you have big foot tires for 15, or 20mm? thanks again, I am really looking forward to it.

For anybody that likes to ride the wall of the dunes, all I can say is that they are awesome right now. Was out on Sunday and had a killer time.

kiteboyza - 9-5-2012 at 01:36 PM

keep it that way till i get there
:eekdrull:

Dagon - 22-5-2012 at 09:24 AM

looks like the winds will be around 10 mph while we are there with some scattered showers. My largest kite right now is a 6.5 century, does anyone have a bigger kite I could borrow if I need something larger? Also I may be in the same trouble as someone who posted earlier, I am flying in and have started packing up my gear, I am not sure I have room for a sleeping bag, tent, and pillow. Does anyone have any I could borrow?
Thanks in advance.

kiteboyza - 22-5-2012 at 11:58 AM

anybody have a spare barrow wheel? It should be able to take a 20mm bolt, mine is flat and wont pump. Tubeless tat....

bigkid - 22-5-2012 at 12:23 PM

Dagon,
I have a bunch of kites you can fly, wont be there till the last weekend but you are welcome to what I have.

MDK - 22-5-2012 at 01:41 PM

It looks as if I may make it after all! I will be driving over Wed the 30th and head back home Sunday. Is there a place to set up my camp/tent trailer?

macboy - 22-5-2012 at 02:03 PM

Kiteboyza - Got one here if we can get it to you somehow before you hit the road. Don't think it's a 20mm but you can swap the tire off to your wheel.

kiteboyza - 22-5-2012 at 02:17 PM

ah, Jon has helped me out, it's just the tube thats trashed and should be able to get one there

Thanks for the offer though, muchos appreciated

Dagon - 22-5-2012 at 02:56 PM

thanks bigkid, but I will be there May 26-30 so it looks like I will miss you. I am sure I will make do with my 6.5 but I just thought I would give a shout out if anyone had some extras.

kiteboyza - 22-5-2012 at 03:51 PM

I have plenty kits dude

Dagon - 22-5-2012 at 04:22 PM

looks like I found a tent and pillow to borrow as well, I can probably get a sleeping bag squeezed into my kite bag too.

jellis - 22-5-2012 at 04:56 PM

We have plenty of big kites for you Dagon.
