I asked for winter not this

Well we've had an extremely mild winter so far, and the cold finally hit us this week. Tonight and tomorrow is the coldest of those days. Had a fella from B.C. who just moved here after Christmas say that we are nuts to work in this. While we are accustomed to cold days, I definitely don't know a single person who likes it all that much. At least I'll feel more comfortable venturing out on the ice after this clears in five or so days. :ticking:

Any snow we have had this year has turned to rain within like 6-8 hours. Someone mentioned that the mild weather has been bad for the local towns that count on ski commerce. For purely selfish reasons, I have been thankful for the mild winter. Heating oil prices have skyrocketed, we have some additional wards to keep warm and safe, and my tolerance for cold seems directly tied to my mood, so it's not at its strongest this season.

Can tell the Bridie's less thrilled with winter this year too. A couple of nights, I have had to pick her up and walk her to the door. She alway has that look of betrayal.... like what kind of cruel person would make her go out in the winter chill. She's getting on in years and sleeps under blankets these days. She has discovered the magic of berber fleece and will never settle for anything less.

Looking at that graphic, I don't understand how you could have temps that low yet relative humidity above 50%. Especially considering how far from an ocean you are. Weird, possibly a computer glitch.

We've also had a mild Winter so far, and unlike you folks up North, I'm very happy not to see any snow this Winter. Just had an ocean downwinder yesterday, air temps were in the low 60s (F) and wind was side on-shore at 15-20 mph. Not bad for the middle of January.

The relative humidity is often high when it is that cold. I don't know why or how though. You can go outside and everything is covered in hoar frost. My only thought is that the air is denser and therefore the molecules are tighter together making the higher concentration of water vapor. The chart is definitely right though.

@shaggs - Could be you're right. I studied that stuff in college, but that was ages ago. I seem to remember that air can hold more moisture as the temps go higher, but then again, I might have been sleeping during that lecture.
