FLEXBOARDZ HAIZE Phreeride series (videos)

PHREERIDER - 23-1-2012 at 07:06 AM

nicely powered side on breeze, 15-20mph. started late morning caught some nice midday light, Haize rolling this session. jumped this vid up in the que the framing is better than some previous.

this day turned out to be supreme ramping up to 20-30 . 11-4 with the afternoon filled with kite surfing. nice S-SW, gusty for a southern breeze but with sunshine u hardly notice. Sunday scored as nice NE for full swing in less than 24hrs.

anyway vid starts at the last few tacks before the run back . some of the upwind ride maybe clipped into another vid.
board feels real nice, lowered the tire pressure a little and still had some springy bounce and manageable grip. board still has symmetrical settings without issues. couple times rolled onto some soft and would have normally been slammed running this far into the soft , but it floats over nicely.

around 6 hours with this unit and the kite is a PL Vii13m straight wired bar set up.

Thanks for the video !!
What a nice white sand beach...is it South Carolina?

PHREERIDER - 23-1-2012 at 09:59 AM

yes, hilton head island

Soma - 23-1-2012 at 11:40 AM

God, I need a beach like that, :D

Had a great weekend with cross onshore 10-15mph winds but with only 15-20 meters of hard packed sand to play with.
Spent the whole time tacking from one side to the other.
Nonetheless, finally learn to go upwind, :bigok:

@PHREE
Great video, thanks

@Flexboardz
Any idea of a Portuguese seller/importer?
Would like to demo a cutie of those

Nice stuff Phree! Doing flexboardz some serious justice!

PHREERIDER - 23-1-2012 at 01:11 PM

thanks SOMA, if you flow through the transitions, side shore is all good in a tight spot.

cross wind to up wind, that how its done!

stetson05 - 23-1-2012 at 06:24 PM

Saw some nice carving in there. Doesn't look like the extra 5 lbs of board is keeping you from being able to jump and some nice float too. Jealous of your beach. Flexboardz brought me snow when the board arrived. Waiting for it to melt. My wife is tired of me riding inside.

PHREERIDER - 24-1-2012 at 06:09 AM

SHMH, board has range!

Stetson , atm the extra is slowly disappearing, seems the extra speed and grip give you more total energy in the accel.mass to make up the extra weight. really ALLOWING it to accelerate, send it with a jump is the basis good of flies and landings same like any other, maybe somewhat softer with the big tires. after a few more sessions gonna jump back on GI 93 and throw some doubles!

PHREERIDER - 26-1-2012 at 06:38 AM

just added the #3

http://vimeo.com/35670612

this is actually the start of about the 40 minute upwind ride.

working through some new footage with fixed single framing should be a couple days and shorter for sure.

nearing 10 hours on this unit and very happy with action and its features. the extra weight thing has not been an issue and actually turned a few rolls. since the board is heavier than my GI 93/106 it tends to hang beneath my hips more rather than out, so the rotation feel a little different and maybe faster despite its higher mass..maybe more centered to the point of rotation. a few tech vids of track width change and height change will be added shortly.

AND gonna try to consolidate this units vids on this thread so it doesn't get SO lost for reference.

I don't know how to express how much I am grateful for all these videos : in 10 days, you have produced more quality videos than me in 10 years...the rider, the place, the light, the video editing...everything is perfect (not even heavy metal music :) )... I almost feel retired ...:)

However, as frenchman are known to be never happy, may I recommend to shave your forearms and paint your nails in red...it might improve our comunication toward the women market :)

Thanks from the depth of my heart !!

PHREERIDER - 30-1-2012 at 08:07 AM

heres some hardware looks and tech stuff and track width mod.

one of the first things i did with this unit, is reset the cruising height, and double the compression bushings. the manual demos this and also, specific for kiting, there is the SUGGESTION for asymmetrical heelside dominate cant. I like the idea of the board remaining SYMMETRICAL for equal feel heel and toe, with symmetrical settings the board has proven to me the off set is only going to LIMIT your riding this unit, if it is offset, it will hinder your progression to toeside riding. you want ALL of the board, right ? don't set it up to closeout FULL function!

after 10hours, everything got a tweak. one point that got me early was the tires/rims. FIRST thing ...deflate ALL, tighten ALL of the HUB bolts so the 2pc. rims are solid and not pinching and have ZERO separation during HI pressure inflation.
a step to prevent a flat, for sure.

ALL the bolt/nut(s) have nylon locks so its tidy and secure ..just do a break-in retweak and all is solid.

the track width change is a mod that is only based on my experience with previous boards, also some wheel scrub was an issue that needed some ....phreedom. the limiting factor on the change is the axle stud penetration into the suspension arm. i felt AT LEAST to the center line of the casting was plenty of transfer. this gives a considerable space for adjustment and ample thread coverage. 1/2' copper pipe cut to about 1" in length was added as the spacer and thinner jam nut to LOCK the axle in place(vid has the wider nut without issue but i wanted MORE stud penetration). this mod is a personal choice and i believe adds to upwind grip without the need for board cant.. and the wheel scrub thing.
i will continue to tweak the exact width change, and i suspect different surfaces/wheel sizes( like super big for powder soft stuff) will HAVE to consider the mechanical limits of the existing hardware. the easiest way to get a width change is to just add another WIDE AXLE NUT/or 2.

super easy switch on the height and the track < both a personal preference> and i will most likely be lowering the deck height over the next 50 hours with some minor bushing change stuff coming up. ...AND the wheel/axle angle under load seems to be BETTER for bearing range, its early i know, but looks like the bearings will be lasting longer due to lower lateral pressure!

board has been delivering folks

here are some vids for the visuals on those....phreedom mods

BeamerBob - 8-2-2012 at 07:50 PM

Maybe my favorite so far Phree. Great angle on the sand cam. I like the knee level shots as well. DMB is GREAT for a kite video. Fluid motion. I imagined the guy on the bike telling his wife that you had probably done this 20-30 times to be so good at it. :duh: OH, toeside to heelside turns make me want to get on a board.

erratic winds - 8-2-2012 at 08:09 PM

Loved it, keep them coming!

flexboardz - 9-2-2012 at 04:24 AM

Thanks a lot for all your videos !! (is SC always sunny like that in winter? )

I wanted to add few words about your setup experiments: widening the board track makes the board more turny (different from a standard mtb)...

I would like to see you testing the asymetrical kite setup on a windy day to have your rider feeling about the grip improvement...

Here are few other example of exotic setup :
8 wheeler for soft sand

Wheels mounted inside the arms (no special interest...makes the board quite unstable)

PHREERIDER - 9-2-2012 at 06:07 AM

thanks !

GOPRO is still solid! and typical seasonal look with sunset.... more clouds and pollen will make it deluxe and PINK!

fun series on this super light sea breeze.

and to finish this series on the front here's #8 http://vimeo.com/36453612

PHREERIDER - 9-2-2012 at 08:28 AM

the width thing, i think it just adds to the stability and esp. the grip for upwind , and the grip in general is ALOT any more and it may be too challenging for the ankles.

the asymmetrical set up is coming in the next bushing change... which is NOW.

multiple tires is a bit much ...a bit larger tire, like small ATV, would be dune ready. definitely have the track width ready for that.

fun unit for sure. certainly enjoying it, nearing the 25hour mark of ride time and will get some vid of time and pressure results. for comparison the phresh GI flight 93 with wear since September... cubes blew out about month ago on it.

i have been wearing some old MTB shoes that have a steel shank in the footbed and matches well with board... its a change for me seems to give ideal feedback feel...they look kinda like a skate board shoe but you also can use them as a hammer. the reasons for use are multiple... one is to stop me from jumping back and forth from the water to the land, just commits me to the land session when i have the "magic shoes" on. the flipflops and strap shoes are brutal with the land rides, and i have had some super big air sessions on the water and my feet are starting to remind me of my human limits, so the shoes help. plus i found in storage IN the BOX. weird point, but it has merit for the avid rider.

stetson05 - 22-2-2012 at 11:47 AM

Looked really good to me. I think I am too picky on my video then don't put any out. My skills aren't at quite the same level though. I liked the aerial transitions at each end and the jump with float at about 3:50. Just goes to show a flexboard can jump.

PHREERIDER - 22-2-2012 at 12:21 PM

thanks stetson, i was so picky at first but there not alot of guidelines for style and its all hit and miss. i like seeing the kite action the whole "dynamic system flow" it really conveys whats going on like the single frame stuff. when i first started shooting vids couple time did hours of jumps that weren't even close to being in frame.
just make it up as you go along ...everytime i preview new files i think "wow bunch lame crap" look at it a month later with different eyes ..did the same last night foe an hour found stuff i was trashing ....but then comes the hair pulling edit! explains my purest same session clips, just makes it easier with the light flow and stuff. put it out there man!

PHREERIDER - 22-2-2012 at 12:53 PM

oh yeah, and the board rocks a phreeride session no doubt!

PHREERIDER - 22-2-2012 at 07:37 PM

http://vimeo.com/37281804 phreeride #12

another line rig session, typical flow uncut session, go pro caught me checking the cell...just making sure its not getting wet!

flexboardz staying together after a month in the daily grind. we've had some decent wind, so a nice run of sessions to feel it out, with different looks and intensities, no doubts on the range the unit has even in tight spots like side on and with a tiny strip of beach! and the better range of float over soft stuff that normally would crackED my Azz.

anyway many thanks for following the thread! i've tried to keep it varied without too much SeE sIcK action to give the unit a fair shake down by video sail log.

definitely more to come, spring is coming which only means MORE wind and water session will hog the days for sure...NABX...JIBE all in the mix as well.

not sure how much info is out there on this board...but there's definitely more now.

bigkid - 22-2-2012 at 08:30 PM

http://vimeo.com/37769782 phreeride #14

here's a downwind run uncut. this i believe is one o the most difficult elements of kite landboarding.

keeping everything lit! the speed just gets super zoomy, with hot switches at speed that really stretch out. a 30min up wind haul smoked out in a matter of minutes. once mastered really and truly gives you phull circle of the phreeride

enjoy

shaggs2riches - 1-3-2012 at 11:00 PM

Just going through all of this thread extremely inspiring stuff. You sir are probably one of the most dedicated team riders out there. I think that most guys are just looking to get free gear and show off. But you are actually doing what every sponsored rider should be doing. The only thing that leaves me wondering, is how a flexboard handles on a downhill mountainboard track. Different terrain, multiple jumps, drop offs, and everything else that comes with that sort of package. If it can handle a Phreeride, it must be able to handle everything else out there.

bigkid - 2-3-2012 at 12:45 AM

shaggs, I sell more of the boardz to down hill riders than kite boarderz. I'm not real good at down hilling but I would rather Flexboard it than the try to ride the others. Easier to keep the board under you and it rides a lot like a snow board, but don't take my word for it. Buy one for your self. hehe

PHREERIDER - 2-3-2012 at 06:37 AM

shaggs, i like being outside physically experiencing my life on fun gear.!..
...anyway , a "run" in sailing is straight downwind so everything is loose and quick and the feel is just like downhill, kite is active but really just bumping me along . i will admit the Fxbz is seriously stuck to the ground it doesn't flip over/trip like a conventional skate truck would, l believe because the traction energy remains on the same side instead of THRU the axle, thats my guess and experience has shown it to me as well next vid has this "anti-trip" action...kinda like a manual but on the side. i know sounds crazy, but when watched the vid (which is THE great thing about VIDEO FEEDBACK)you look like WTF was that....reminds of the VW GTI rear wheel hike in racing. you don't know its happening til you watch it on video replay. crazy stable action and fast. for me its working out nice despite its slightly heavier comparative weight and haize is the largest unit of three choices the other two are smaller. i only have experience on the haize with the 9" wheel set which eats terrain that chokes my other boards .

shaggs2riches - 3-3-2012 at 11:09 AM

I would love to get a go on one of these, unfortunately the wife warned me that my closet can't get any fuller till I buy a set of bikes, and plant some trees in our backyard. Then again she did tell me last year that I wouldn't be allowed to buy any kites and I bought two new ones and a mountainboard.

the pliable feminine mind forever changing and supple ..like a hand full of wet marbles !

PHREERIDER - 4-3-2012 at 05:56 PM

from last friday, after 4hours on the water, the the tide had pushed back just enough to have a go on the HAIZE despite fatigue ...arc needed to dry anyway.

side on about 20 knts, Vii 13m, ultra solid power right at the top of the window, not alot of running for speed so most of the airs are quick tight redirects keeping me on the landing strip maybe 60-70yds wide ...at this windspeed and tight spot really tedious fly.

the water completely fried my legs then this finishes off the arms with good old fashion venom bar pressure!

How you find time to go thru all that footage /?????...... Looks like you are one happy kiter with that hard packed beach ...... jealous .....

PHREERIDER - 4-3-2012 at 08:30 PM

overstoked makes it easy ! not much to go thru . i set the camera down about 15min or so, hit it(what you see on the video) and thats all of the footage. i only clipout truly dead spots like if i stop and talk someone, out frame stuff more than 4-6 sec. preview speed once, may be 30 min with the edit junk..music out of playlist i session'd with, i usually try to match the final time in length and pick it out quick with out to much thought... watch once , process/export/upload.

content is already flowed in the session, i just clip out empty screens, not that much of that since i stay in the box ...at least i try.

PHREERIDER - 5-3-2012 at 06:10 AM

the original length of the file 12:06 , includes a couple walking by i clipped out and i dropped it on the way to put down

http://vimeo.com/38064800 phreeride #15

this has few errors in the edit just not up fixing at the moment.

side shore 12-15 with some gusts flexboardz HAIZE surviving decent pop and drops, haize staying glued to ground on powerslide transitions at speed. brief single wheel hike in there as mentioned in prior posts, first time noticed it anyway, its in the last third i think have to watch and get the time mark.

enjoy

gonna rename the post title FLEXBOARDZ HAIZE Phreeride series (videos) so reference is easy.

stetson05 - 6-3-2012 at 07:13 PM

Glued to the ground is right. This last fall on my MBS I was getting the feel of powerslides and quite enjoying it. Since switching to the flexboardz it doesn't want to slide. It is great for holding down power and speed without wobble but otherwise no sliding for me (plus the soccer field owner is kinda nervous about damage). I wonder how much will change when I get to the beach in 3 weeks.

PHREERIDER - 6-3-2012 at 09:04 PM

definitely takes more power to break it loose ,i think a set of slicks can give a relax bite for slides. grip control is there for sure.

PHREERIDER - 7-3-2012 at 08:55 AM

wheel hike in #15 at 5:35, toeside pressure, and GRIP is still there, and still going up wind. you can't feel any of that through the board , deck just remains stable, no tendency for pull over at all. not that it(pullovers) won't happen, its just so far beyond the envelope of conventional trucks.

definitely a fascinating part of the design.

wanted to mention that on the last vid, board view 2,

for the first time i stabilized the clip and it makes a difference , things aren't so jumpy and much smoother. the process/rendering/conversion somewhere around 16hours.
thought i would mention it with my head movement and speeds without stabilization its hard to watch.

coming up a vid with the haize mowing seaweed , no problem! a had e big flotilla land on our beach from the east and wow the smell! near complete coverage at least for the 5 miles i ride.
