I am working on trading some windsurfing gear for kite equipment and found a guy thats interested in a trade. He has an older Best Nemesis 12m with
bar and lines in like new shape.. Im new to the sport and have been flying a trainer and thats it. Is this a bad kite for a new guy. I figured if it
doesnt work for me I could find someone who has a foil more suited for me and maybe trade. Give me your 2 cents.. Thanks..

What year of Best Nemesis? If it's older than 2008, it's going to be a C-kite, and will make learning more difficult due to its more narrow
windrange, less stability, and more difficult relaunch. If it's a 2008, 2009, 2011, or 2012, go for it, but I'd recommend a lesson first.
If you've never flown a depower and kiteboarding on water is your goal, I would recommend taking a lesson at the coast if at all possible. The winds
will be smoother, the location should be safe for you to learn on, you'll be on school gear, and you'll have someone there to train you on how
depowers work. Just be sure to tell your instructor that you know how to fly a trainer kite so they can (hopefully) skip that portion of the lesson
(note: they may test your trainer kite skills to verify you have basic kite skills).

Agreeing with burritobandit. Where are you located at? Is it convenient to go to a lesson center and figure out how the whole thing works?

Pretty sure he said its a C kite.. Would it work for land? Thats kind of what I am trying to learn first.. Buggy and a ATB..

Well... any kite will work on Land. There are certain schools of thought that say LEI + LAND = BLOWN UP KITE. However, it can work just fine. You
just don't want to crash it a lot. Any kind of repetitive impact like that will eventually do damage to your kite. What people fail to remember is
that if you hit water hard enough, it is less forgiving than sand. 
If it is a C kite, then it will have it's own quirks you will need to learn (relaunch can be tricky). If you can nail down the year on the kite, we
can definitely tell you more about it...

South Dakota hm? Yeah... thats a little tougher to get an instructor. Surely there are other folks riding in your areas? Not sure if I have ever seen
anyone else posting from that region though. Sorry.
There certainly is nothing wrong with learning on an LEI. Just bear in mind any first kite is going to take its fair share of beatings...

It will, you just have to be careful not to burst the bladder which is easier said than done when talking to a new kilter.

I'll find out the year. Are the bar and lines interchangeable with foil kites? I figured a kite I could maybe use or trade is better than windsurfing

Pretty much what Ragden and Clunthoo said.. I use my LEIs on land with my ATB all the time now, but I've been kiting for years so I rarely crash it
and can I self launch/land and relaunch easily. Repeated crashes usually results in leaky or even blown leading edge bladders.
And landkiting with a C-kite is totally doable, but you have to be on point with your kite skills and know how to work your way out of the beginnings
of a front-stall/backstall and how to manage gusts. You'll also have to know how to self launch/land and relaunch/reverse launch which will be more
difficult to do on a C. My 2008/2009 Nemesis HPs and Kahoonas have been my goto kites on land for a while now.
If you can get a hold of a newer bow-kite/SLE, you'll (usually) get more durable materials, stability, wind-range, and better performance overall.
If you're getting put off by the idea of an LEI, you might want to also consider a depower foil, Peter Lynn, or Flysurfer.

LEI was not my first choice if someone were to trade me gear but I dint have many options. I am definitely working on buying a depower foil soon but
as for getting rid of dust collecting windsurfing gear this seems to be my only bite for now. I have been trying to sell it but around here not many
people do it. Is there any value in this kite if I were to look for a trade or sell on here?

A 2004/05 C might be a hard sell.. If you were to throw 'em up on ebay, I would say you might get ~$100 for the kite (if it's in good condition, no
leaks), and $50-$100 for the bar (if it and the lines are in good condition).
Keep an eye on this auction to get an idea of what you might be able to sell it for:

If the foil was a depower, possibly with some tuning . Also, the amt of depower throw in the depower line will come into play and you might have to
lengthen or limit the amt of throw it has for the depower foil kite you couple it with to fly properly.
If you wanted to make it a crossover bar for a fixed bridle foil, you'd have to experiment more. You'd probably end up mimicing the Ozone Turbo
bar's configuration.

Depending on the year/model of the bar, it could be. Although, with proper tuning it may work together.
If he is claiming to have flown the Nemi on the Cab bar, then great. If he is just including the Cab bar to be able to claim 'kite, bar, and lines',
then there might be some work to do.
Btw, I had a 2004/2005 set of Cabrinha C-kites, and the depower throw on the Cabrinha bar was WAYYY less than my 2004 Best Bar that came with my 2004
Nemesis kites.

Hey egg,
I used to windsurf before I reformed! The kite doesn't sound like it has much value as a trade to me. Only if your windsurf gear is super old school
might it be worth it. This kite would be very hard to trade later for you. They have improved drastically since around 2007. You can find 2007 kites
for pretty cheap if you look for a bit. If your buddy would trade you a board then maybe it's worth it?

He said it was a friend of his and the kite was flown once and the friend gave it to him.. I'm not sue if it was an original combo..

Just curious what the trainer kite you have been using is?
I'm am also an eastern SD kiter and also fairly new (introduced to this drug mid last summer). Because I'm still a noob, you can take or leave my
recommendation, but for the gusty crap winds we have here, a used/new Peter Lynn arc seems like a perfect fit...

I have a 3m slingshot. Your right about the winds here, not consistant. My windsurfing gear is atleast 10 years old. Still a good beginner setup just
not worth much.
