New to the forum!

PBandJ - 24-2-2012 at 06:44 PM

Hi everyone,

My name is James and I live in Durham, NC. Anyone close to me, let me know, I would like to meet fellow fliers.
Went out today with my newish Rush 250 16+mph winds. I knew I should not have started this. All I can say is DAMN.
I am looking to get a land board and want to make a set of the wheels of doom.

I live about 2 hours from the beach so I would like recommendations on where landlocked folks with no dried lake beds get there kicks on wheels. Do you just do short runs and start over?

Anyway, I will be chatting with you soon.
James

Bob posted instructions for building the Wheels of Doom here.

Rob (Chedderhead) made some roller skis.

If you can provide estimates for your weight and size, it will help in finding a board for you.

Looks like you've already zeroed in on the Catalyst that recently came up for sale. Crackin' good deal.

ATB,
Sam

soliver - 24-2-2012 at 09:31 PM

welcome from another newby!

you are relatively close to me in metro Atlanta, where we fly choppy winds and baseball or soccer fields,... but hey, we take what we can get.

I met up in Jan with a few guys in Aiken SC, where they have access to a big huge polo field. U2U pokitetrash, Phreerider, or tridude... they are all in the South Carolina area and were super cool to this newb.

I've got a couple of ok spots here in ATL if you ever head this way.

Hey watch out for Pokitetrash. Before you know it you will like him and not know why!!!
Chris you know we all love you:smilegrin:

thanson2001ok - 25-2-2012 at 05:34 AM

Welcome. Used to live in Cary. I miss NC and the beach some times.

It's hard to do in Durham, but find open areas that are not surrounded by trees. The wind shadow/turbulence caused by objects like trees is at least 7 times the height of the obstacle.

BigMikesKites - 25-2-2012 at 05:50 AM

Welcome to the forum...soccer fields are my best local location, but once you figure it out, you will try to be on the beach whenever you can.

Todd - 25-2-2012 at 03:42 PM

Greetings and welcome to the forum.

Currently passing through Kenly and often pass through Durham. Next time I'm rolling through I'll shoot you a message.

Looking_Up - 25-2-2012 at 07:14 PM

If I lived 2 hrs from the beach I wouldn't be looking is be flying

PBandJ - 5-3-2012 at 09:53 PM

I need help! In less than 3 weeks I am already selling a kite and have bought three more. I didn't sign up for this!!!
Seriously, I knew I should have never started!:spin:
I am still looking for folks in the mid-NC/Raleigh-Durham area. You know who you are.

Welcome to the Family!!!

Kite fever spreads

skimtwashington - 6-3-2012 at 06:08 AM

Look at the contrast of the previous two avatars!:o

Just saying!

This 'kiting family' needs more varied members: children, women, blue collar, white collar, no collar unemployed in t-shirts, physical adaptive, Hollywood stars, etc.

Remember...there's no application to fill out! That's the only reason I was able to get in!

lamrith - 6-3-2012 at 06:57 AM

Welcome PB&J!

Yeah this is an addiction. within 3 months I had 5 kites, still own them all, and have bought more!

Roadkyllphil - 6-3-2012 at 07:49 AM

Oh no!!! No one told me it would be like this!!! (gotta score a bigger kite) Looking to be out when I can get out of the shop. Welcome aboard.

pongnut - 6-3-2012 at 10:32 AM

Welcome to the Hotel Kite-ifornia PBandJ, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!

Seriously, I don't know what it is about this drug: the visual stimulation of a beautiful sail ripping across the wind window only to stop and rest peacefully at the other side, waiting patiently for your next command; or the musical concert of the lines singing through the wind during a nukin' session; or the excitement of the war that ensues when you lead your kite into battle with the power zone, and the power zone starts winning, dragging you deeper into enemy territory! It all gets your grey matter sparkin' and sends the endorphins streaming!

:wee::roll:

...sorry, daydreaming of kites again... As Drew said, “...crazies!!!”

As you were...
