Saw in another thread that the XR+ is rated at 25-30mph. What makes the XR rated at 25-30mph? Say if I had 12 miles of perfectly smooth beach, wind
about 25mph and flying a 1.5m kite. Could I not get going faster than 30mph without my back wheels breaking loose, tipping over or getting dragged
outta the buggy? Are there other factors that go into that rating? I'm talking a bone stalk XR+, btw. Just curious, thanks for any input.ripsessionkites - 3-3-2012 at 11:42 PM
its a rec style buggy ... it wasn't designed for high speed runs but more for cruising around
because of the size of the buggy it is possible to flip it but most can balance it on two wheel fun instead.
speed wobble does occur too due to the lightness of the buggy
i've taken a XR+ to 100mph before but it wasn't the greatest feeling and had to drop in a few mods too.

That was the other mod he forgot to mention!markite - 4-3-2012 at 12:00 AM
I know Ziggy took his to a little over 60 mph but haven't seen anyone doing 100mph. I've done in the mid 50's on a beach with an XR+ and 9m phanny and
wan't bothered with stability, but I did not have the comfort and holding power at that speed that I like from a race buggy. I like being down into a
seat, like a #@%$#!pit, locked in against the side rails when it comes to higher speeds. You will sill may XR buggies often hitting the high 40s at
NABX and some into the 50s depending on the variables.ChrisH - 4-3-2012 at 12:37 AM
I'm thinkin Rip meant 100kmh, 62mph. Anyway, thanks for the input!ripsessionkites - 4-3-2012 at 01:30 AM

I was thinking maybe it went that fast being towed behind something like a car or something although not something I would want to do.markite - 4-3-2012 at 09:43 AM

I figured RIP meant 100 kmh and was going to say "the 100 mph was the day he got his skirt caught in the car door" but was waiting for Dino to chime
in with somethingDAKITEZ - 4-3-2012 at 03:13 PM
darn I missed an opportunity to make fun of the chinglish talk. We can not even say it was when he was driving with his buggy in the car that he went
100mph because he only rides his bicycle. I have heard he can peddle fast but the training wheels slow him down quite a bit.
Seriously though back on topic I have seen Brian going faster than that in his XR+ going backwards on the playa. Skill and no fear account for alot
when it comes to speed.
Just curious where you saw it rated for that speed and who rated it?
Also side note ... most of the tyres we ride on say not for highway use ... so what speed does that limit those to?mougl - 4-3-2012 at 03:30 PM
I can only speak from personal experience but with an XR+ with an extended axle and 9.5" wide tires on the rear and a 6.5" on the front I hit 38mph on
hard pack. Rear end kept breaking loose on me. During some 35ish runs, pbc and dean were flying by me with reg axels and barrows on XR+ buggies so
skill is certainly a major factor here.van - 4-3-2012 at 11:04 PM
I think it's possible to hit 100mph on an XR+. You just have to change your underwear out after your speed run. It's a funny feeling when you know you are way over the buggies
capabilities. It all depends if you have hoojz balls or not. I personally would not go over 30mph on an XR+ since I don't have alot of clean
underwears. ripsessionkites - 5-3-2012 at 02:08 AM
barrows are limited to 30mph ... but we all sure know they can handle more
you should all be using KM/H ... hehehehebigkid - 5-3-2012 at 06:15 AM

You don't wear underwear, so whats the difference?
Van gives new meaning to letting it all hang out, sorry, I forgot we were talking about buggys.snowspider - 5-3-2012 at 06:42 AM
Is that why some buggying is called FREE STYLE ?ragden - 5-3-2012 at 08:38 AM
I've taken my XR+ up to around 47mph. It starts getting sketchy over 40pmh. The larger tires help, for sure. But as previously stated, its really how
big you want to go. BeamerBob - 5-3-2012 at 08:45 AM
I rode beside Brian Holgate in 1 yesterday and we were regularly cruising at 40 mph around each other. I could handle more power than him with both
my added weight and a race buggy but he could go faster still with a front running kite to lessen the side load.markite - 5-3-2012 at 11:24 AM
It also makes a huge difference where you ride - a beach with bumps and lumps and you bounce more loosing grip and going 30mph feels fast, a smooth
beach and you can get the speed up higher without feeling like you are loosing it but you don't have as much room to bare off downwind so at a point
you might start breaking out the back end when over powered - on the lakebed you can turn and run downwind so the buggy isn't really an issue if you
have the right combo of power etc. Running downwind you can still throw a kite around or hang on and go but as soon as you turn cross wind you'll
slide and then it's a feeling of whether you feel like you are getting lifted off the buggy or the buggy is holding you down.
Bounce down a lumpy beach at 30mph and you swear you are doing 60mph then get out on the dry lake in a smooth wind and hit 40 mph and you think you
are doing 25-30
