For the ones that love Hatteras Island!!!

lovehatteras - 6-3-2012 at 09:37 AM

I know there are many in the Kiting family that love Hatteras Island NC. Canadian Hole is the prime spot for many. Well the park service/govt has laid down harsh rulings that would require everyone driving on the beach to have a permit $50 a wk or $120 a yr. I know many use the parking lot at Canadian Hole and thats fine but many drive out on the sand to give them more room. You will need a permit. Even with the permit they have closed huge portions of the beaches even to WALKING! Yes walking! Its killing the island and its economy. We need your help in stoping this. Congressman Walter Jones has put a bill up to stop this. To put the beaches back like they were years ago when we didnt have to worry about what was open and close. It is to keep all beaches OPEN & FREE! There is also a petition to help move this along and has over 15K signatures, we are pushing for 25K signatures. So please if you enjoy or love Hatteras Island please help. Sign and share the petiton with your friends also for up to date info you can go to OBX II SUPPORT FREE & OPEN BEACHES! on Facebook.. Thanks again... heres the link for the petition... Thanks

I love Hatteras its where I first became interested in kiting. Was thinking of going again soon. Does this also mean you cant buggy on the beach? Hadnt even considered that based on my previous visits.

Currently, there is nothing to stop you from buggying on the beach, if the conditions setup right to do it.

I would think that if the ban says you cannot WALK THERE, then you probably cannot bring your buggy there either...

well the $50 a week permit or the $120 a yr permit could put a stop to it. plus many of the best places are closed to driving and walking. There are some places open but are subject to close at anytime if certain birds or turtles are on it. That is why i posted in the first places many do not know what is going on and need to know. Thats what the bill being introduced and the petition is for, to put a stop to this. So please take the time and sign the petition and show your support so EVERYONE can enjoy the beach!

Worth the effort, imo.

No... Thank you for putting this information out there where people can find it and actually help in something of this magnitude. Would be rather depressing to take a trip down there and find out that everything is shut down and I just drove 6hrs for nothing...

So... Thank you!

well like i said there are some spots still open but if you drive on the beach you will have to have a permit... but if its roped off you cant walk or anything on that part of the beach.

For now... But what is to stop these people from taking this a step further? If they win this battle... What is next?
Makes me wonder if these are the same people saying that fixing the bridge is a waste of resources and to let nature reclaim the entire island...
