That is a SHARP looking buggy. Unfortunately, I'm fairly confident that it is outside my price range... Not to mention the whole "I buggy two times a year" aspect...

Heh. Yeah... well... the nearest spot to me only sets up right on a rare occasions, and Wildwood is awesome, but 4hrs away, and not rideable during the summer.... heh.

Resurrecting an old thread, as i just purchased one of these and I love it, sweet ride.
As far as I know, I've got the only one in Australia.
I took a friends son out for the day, and we had a photographer on hand to record some images. Plus a little bit of gopro footage.

The straight rails would reduce the stress on the siderails to resist bending down under load. the bar on top of the X between the siderails creates a triangle so the siderails can't twist. It probably is redundant since the X crossbars won't let it flex either, but it doesn't look like the X bars are joined in the middle, so the horizontal bar might be to be extra sure there isn't flex.
Apexx has an X that is solid welded at the cross so horizontal bar isn't required.

I think the simplest solution to this problem is the single angled bar with one horizontal bar found on other libres.

Are the straight rails underneath the siderails just to increase rigidity?
Yes, one of the things that some builders are finding out is that you can reduce the flex of the siderails with these while reducing the size of the tube and the thickness. Also it helps to hold the placard in place.
Is increased rigidity also the reason for the straight bar above the "X" brace on the back?
A heavy rider that was overpowered by the kite in a race told my he bent the siderails, downtube, and rear axle. The solution was to add the X brace behind the seat. The strait piece is again for the placard.
Purpose for the square tab with the center hole welded onto the rear axle? Looks kind of flimsy for a tow hitch.
Yes it is a tow hitch. and it is more than enough for a tow as it is welded all the way around. I turn the axle around so it sticks in, makes it fit the buggy rack better.

Keep in mind that for some reason the Germans are built bigger then the rest of us. My Majestic is sized medium. A luttle to long in the leg and a touch wider in the side rails, and I'm not a small person. Still more then enough snugness with saftey equipment t the siderails to stop the occassional obe. Sweet ride guys. Who else is gonna grab one? Or am I just gonna be the only guy on the block with this?

Mini review ....Libre Majestic

Firstly I bought this buggy from Jas at Briskites, I gave him my height, weight and let him arrange the right size, as it comes in several sizes, I believe he got it just right . Price wise I felt I got well looked after, and it was delivered much quicker than I expected. Onto the review......

First impressions of the Buggy is it is seriously chunky and solid, from the 7mm plate that holds the footpegs, the 60mm downtube to the 48mm axle, everything about it is beefed up from anything I've ever been in.

It comes in 2 boxes, one for the wheels and tyres, and one for the frame and seat. The wheels that came with it are different from front to back, the rear wheels are asymmetrical with kenda beach racers, the front is symmetrical with a duro tyre ( although the specification on the tyres are the same the Kendal's seem so much bigger). The frame comes well bubble wrapped with the seat partially setup on the siderails.

Assembling is a reasonably time consuming process, so I would not be wanting to pack one of these away in lots of pieces in a hatchback. Not only that but you need several sizes of spanners and a Allen key to assemble ( none of which come with the buggy) two large shifters plus the Allen key would do at a minimum, but spanners will get the the upper bolts for the downtube better.

In order as I would now put it together
1.finger tight bolted the axle to the siderails with 4 nylock bolts
2. cross brace to the rear with another 4 bolts,
3. Join downtube to fork 1 bolt
4. Attach mudguard flap to bracket that supports footpegs 4 bolts
5. Put on the wheels to front and rear axles, note front axle has a locking
bolt on one side, the other side is just for looks. install rear bolt to wheel
fit the locking nut then bolt all to the axle.
6. Slide downtube into 4 bolt bracket just in from of seat.
7. Tighten axle/siderails bolts, tighten fork/seat bolts
8. Fit footpegs
9. Adjust and fit seat straps

It took longer than I expected, but would no doubt be easier the next time.

The seat is also very robust with a grippy rubber material located so if you tried to pop out, it would give maximum friction. The siderails do indeed hold you into your seat, but I think it would make the buggy in its current configuration not for the more generously proportioned individuals. Overall for me it is very comfy. There is also a handy pocket to the rear of the seat for tools, a bottle of drink plus your keys wallet etc.

Rear axle with tyres gives an outside measurement of 1830mm, length from front axle to rear axle is currently 1870mm but is adjustable either way, there are several holes for the front axle and also for the footpegs to allow for custom adjustments.

Future expectations , hopefully it performs well, I am wondering just how it will handle with the extra mass, time will tell.

Perhaps firstly, I went with libre for a few reasons,
Peter Lynn buggies just didn't seem that beefy, plus there's poor reviews with tube thickness and breakages.
Sysmic, just not available at the moment, i did have some considerations and having read the posts during the big wait previously didn't work for me .
There are other brands but not so readily available, I wasn't really interested on importing something myself, as you have no local backup ( jas recently did a repair on a kite for me so it pays to buy local...and he didn't even charge me)

Now to the libre, I rode in John holgates and it's as comfy as an armchair, it's very difficult to find any bad reports on libre as far as failures went, sure people have their favorites and there's plenty of Hooha about which is the very best, but you generally get what you pay for and the best are very expensive.

Now .... Why the majestic, having had Andy's big red buggy I love the whole big buggy thing, Bigfoot tyres and a solid piece of gear feels more stable to me. That really just left the dragster and the majestic. Even though the vmax2 can have bigfoots its still a much smaller buggy. The majestic is newer technology, the curved siderails, which I note sysmic, aero and others have. The cost..... Yeah look it's not cheap, but I did better than the Internet price on the dragster ( I won't say more than that, others will have to arrange their own deals, but jas did give me a good deal) plus if you plan on keeping it a number of years it's not that dear. Stainless was the only way I wanted to go, I've seen other brands peel paint from day one, and the idea of constantly repainting does not appeal.

The buggy unfortunately neither has a drysuit or snorkel as standard attachments

Very pleased with how it handled, the beach didn't have that corrugated effect you get at sandy from time to time, so it's difficult to know that side of it. The only minor issue ( and it's one of adjustment) is the footstraps, for me they need to be at an angle in the mounts, but it's quite do-able, it may be a personal preference thing.
Everything else was great. The most noticeable thing is the seat it really does lock you in, I gave it a hard time doing some slides and turns, even a few bad ones, one I should have got an OBE on but it just hauled me and the buggy backwards. One tip is make sure your pockets are empty, it's that tight a fit, when you load up, it's on your whole seat area not just the hip that meets the side bar. If you flip it and remain in the seat it could be interesting.....
I read elsewhere debates about the apexx buggys and how they are made to fit the individual, and it won't perform it's best for someone else, I can now see to some degree what they are talking about. The seat is a Goldilocks fit for me, not too big , not too small but just right.
All in all very happy with it,
For the more meticulous, the finish is somewhat industrial, you don't gete a highly polished mirror finish on the metal, more sandblasted look, there are minor differences in color which look like water stains, and those would probably buff out, but it's obvious where welds have been ground down to flatten off in places. The seat as far as I can tell is a faux leather where it's black, and I never got it to look like the display one ( bit like a bag of chips in an ad, theirs is smooth and no wrinkles, but you never get them that way, it's all crinkly), as long as its UV stabilized it should be fine, similar with the light grey rubbery sides.
I was going to fit the sysmic wheels to it but I'm not sure about that now, the ones on it performed fine, but they are an asymmetrical offset wheel, putting the sysmics on will make it about 8 inches wider, and that won't fit in the back of the ute. Plus the front tyre is a duro, i thought during my discussions with Jas at briskites it was beach racers all round, but in hindsight maybe the profile of the kenda isn't ideal, so that's why it came with 2 different tyres. Anyway you can judge for yourself in the front on pic.
I have DSK in England making me up some raceplates, that's probably it for bling, whether they are permanent items, it depends how it looks. I do need to figure a way to carry an extra kite or two, more for places like sandy where you can be 5-10 km from the car.
Not much more comes immediately to mind, I will do a review and video, but I would like a few to ride in it first and get their thoughts, to make it a better review.

Very smart looking buggy. Libre always made great bugs.

I'm glad you went for Kendas on the rear. You'll find them great for powersliding although gusty upwind sailing can have you sliding, slowing you down. I have mine cambered and it has improved grip greatly without compromising on powersliding stability + a wee bit safer too. Maybe you could get cambered bolts. I got mine from Popeye.

I also had the Libre Supertruck II and my forks almost took the super wide Beach Racers...almost. I'd take a guess and say that a BR would not quite fit your forks, hence the Duro. Besides, the flat profile of a Kenda creates understeer washout up front.

I would like to see a video of you pushing it hard with slides. I think you'll find your bug very stable.

Thanks for the tips redsky, I will try to see where my limits are in the buggy, but it does give me a good sense of confidence, I haven't been Buggying that long, my first buggy was a bashed up flexifoil, it had been bent up pretty badly, I replaced a couple of bits but it's still not straight. My next one was a homemade Bigfoot one which I picked up for a song as its owner wanted to go into the jumping dept. ( over here buggies have no resale value as its such a niche sport here. ) this was the last video I made with the red one https://vimeo.com/57352061 I still have it and let others that dont have a buggyuse it when I go out.
The new one was a big purchase, but when you consider the cost of a big speed3 kite it seems like good value, the Aussie dollar is better than the US and it cost well over 3k in our money but I'm happy, we live at the other end of the earth and everything's dearer here, but the economy is good and most people are well paid so it's relative.
I will post up whatever video I can get in due course, or I may get a guest apperance in one of John Holgates videos.

I enjoyed your video and I like the gopro mount. The OBE's are always enjoyable to watch, although I don't believe you when you say you haven't been buggying that long. You seem to have a no fear attitude and confidence you get from seasoned bug pilots. Weaving through parked cars on the beach etc and no need to make excuses for spending big bucks on a buggy. You're in good company here.
