Jekyll after JIBE???

soliver - 1-5-2012 at 07:31 PM

I am unfortunately unable to join the gang at JIBE, but I am fortunate to have a great family trip to the area planned the week afterward.

I will be staying on St. Simon's Island (the next Island north of JI) with my wife, kids and inlaws the week of May 20th. I have contacted Angus and we are planning on meeting up one afternoon on Jekyll Island once he knows his availability. I would love anyone else who can to join in the ride. I still have lots to learn, and would love to learn it from lots of folks

I'll have my 2 kites and bug, and I'm sure Angus is very well equipped, so come join in the fun,... let's make it the JI after JIBE ride!

I'm sure I'll be able to get over to Jekyll more than just once, so maybe we can plan more than one get together that week.

We've got Wednesday the 23rd marked as the JIBE "Post Event" and I am looking forward to it.

Angus says NOAA predicts SE winds at 10-12 kts... low tide around 5pm... mmmmm perfection

Looking forward to those looooooooong beach runs that I hear so much about :singing:

Oh, and BTW, I had a super awesome static session on St. Simons 1st st beach today. Worked on some control with the beamer then rocked some 15ft+ long scuds with your core cheezy... man that core is awesome

I have dubbed him "the big green monster"

Jekyll was awesome today. Winds were SE & up between 10 & 14mph. Met Angus and went to it!

I tried to manage the 5m Core again, esp after the awesome static session I had with it yesterday, but for my skill level, I felt overpowered, so I went back to the 3m beamer and had a blast.

Angus pulled out his 15m Phanny 1 and it was sweet to see one of those in person. I've not seen much depower in person, so it was a trip for me (being all FB all the time) to see him just put that kite in auto zenith and chill out like nothing big and huge was attached to him. That was pretty friggin sweet.

The SE wind was not dead on-shore so the southward tack was upwind and that totally killed my arms since I don't yet fly with a harness.

Angus taught me a lot, and after he left, I met Don (I think) from Kiteplace.com who was still hanging out from JIBE. He pulled out his 5m beamer and went at it too. I rode that beach from just after 2pm until almost sundown and started packing up around 7pm... 5 hours in the seat... oh--friggin--yeah!!! ... ... and I'm feeling it

I made a John Holgate style camera mount for my buggy & camera (which is unfortunately NOT a GoPro) and got some pretty good footage. I'll get with I-movie soon and post the vid on the Buggy forum soon.

Many, many many thanks to Angus for sharing his knowledge and his playground!

Off to I-movie.

Can't wait for the movie! It sounds like you had a "priceless" day. Good on ya, Spence!

We had a great time with near perfect, almost dead on-shore winds, clean and steady at 9-13 mph. We had to pick through some crowds with darting toddlers in order to get to empty beach space and Spencer did a great job. I'm glad Spencer was there to pull me out of the office for an afternoon. He showed great skills!
