I have wanted to get on the water for quite some time now but where I live usually does not have the wind to permit it. We only get 20 mph wind a couple of times per year. Usually the wind is around 10 mph.

i marked both, i have a board on the way, but so far only land

stetson05 - 27-5-2012 at 09:45 AM

Mougl you need a flysurfer. If I had 10 mph winds that's what I would be riding.

mougl - 27-5-2012 at 09:47 AM

At 210lbs I'd need a silver arrow and a big @$$ door

The diversity of this sport is what drew me in to begin with. My water exp is pretty poor though. Now that I have a suitable 12m lei this year we have been only having 9&6m weather lol. But the summer is just beginning. They built a school on the only suitable field for atb which tells me I need to invest in a 1/4 section of land, so I can have my very own kite field. But then I'd probably be to busy trying to keep all that grass cut lol.

I have done all land so far. I am currently getting ready to get some water gear so I can get it going on the water! Very much looking forward to it!

As long as you cut it well once, maintenance would be a matter of getting a proper hitch for the buggy.

Two birds, one stone and all that. ;-) :wee:

I started out on water but found out that I suck on a board. + they outlawed us on my local bay.

Then I met Keith Kalio at the Montana snowkite rodeo. R.I.P. . He was skilled at all things wind realated. He had an , I want to share the wind with everybody in all ways attitude that was just amazing. It was by His example that I decided to embrace all forms of sailing the wind. I try to be competent at all forms so I can ride with anybody but still have work to do on water.

I taught myself to ATB. My options on water are polluted or glacier runoff cold. I find it hard to convince myself to head out.

Hey, at least if you say you spent the day "mowing the lawn" you were being productive! Anyway, I've always thought about getting one of these for all that driftwood/debris at Southwick Beach.

All water. But since I've been on this forum, Carl and Phree's videos got me to get a land board I've done it twice on land!

canuck - 27-5-2012 at 04:49 PM

Only 2 sessions in water so far. Lots of sessions on frozen water. More sessions in freezing water to come but I only have a 3/2 wetsuit so July and August are the months to get out.

I really want to try kite water skiing

Mostly land so far, but have gotten a bit in the water last year, a few water sessions this year, and I think I just got the 'ah-ha' feeling on my last session. It's making more sense now. Love the surfy feeling of the board, and am thinking jumping is gonna be pretty fun with so much power in the kite....already pulled a few jumps and went up plenty more than anticipated. woohoo.

tridude - 28-5-2012 at 11:03 AM

good to see so many of you takin or soon to be takin to the aqua..................keep in mind that your land skillz will pay dividends on the water............remember to let the kite pull you downwind, build speed, then set your edge and work upwind. Most of all watch your bar position. You will find yourself choking the kite with the bar pulled too far in (its a natural reaction to pull). Second, edge control is thru your hips so dont forget to lean back. This will assist you in holding your edge and working upwind. Once your upwind, its all gravy from there......................:duh:

Both....either buggy or landboard Mon-Fri and then the ocean on Sat and Sun (if wind permits). Love both the land and water but the water is definitely my favorite. Nothing quite like surfing without the paddling...

I'd do more landboarding ... if we had more land :o water is simply easier to get to here so it's totally taken over - I haven't touched my landboards in a couple of years :(
