I would like to know what everyone thinks is the best landboarding kite.
I want to know about fixed bridle and depower kitesDrewculous - 30-5-2012 at 10:08 AM
Im partial to my charger and twister lol.... Lotsa opinions comin your way!flyjump - 30-5-2012 at 10:21 AM
If you want to get the most out of jumping, then go with depower. you'll be able to hold down a bigger kite in stronger winds and go huge. It's also
nice not having to worry about kite collapseragden - 30-5-2012 at 10:22 AM
Fly both and figure out what you like... shortlineflyer - 30-5-2012 at 10:41 AM
I f i decide to go with a fb i think ill go with the twistermougl - 30-5-2012 at 11:07 AM
I've tried the ATB on both. FB just frustrates me on an atb and I usually hop in the buggy and have a blast. This year at JIBE I decided to try my
Phantom II on the board. I'm sold. Depower all the way!!
Mucho better in gusts, more kite in the air, was easier to balance with a bar IMHO, nice and floaty when I did jump. Damn I love depower!!shortlineflyer - 30-5-2012 at 11:28 AM
Yeah I think thats what ill end up getting. depower. now I just need to find a good one in my budgetcarltb - 30-5-2012 at 12:13 PM
gotta go depower!!!!ikemiester - 30-5-2012 at 12:44 PM
Find an old frenzy, montana, ranger, or PL with some life left in it... You could be able to get one around 3-400ish if it was mad in the mid and
later 2000sshortlineflyer - 30-5-2012 at 01:06 PM
I have beenlooking for a montana but cant find a good one
I am considering getting a ranger. has anyone flown oneBladerunner - 30-5-2012 at 01:37 PM
I only go to fixed bridle and the board as a last resort. Large and small for the extremes. If winds are decent depower is the perfect match.
Jumping is far better with a good depower.
The Ranger is a good kite for it's day. Not a bad place to start on a budget. Arcs can be good bang for buck as well.shortlineflyer - 30-5-2012 at 01:47 PM
I dont have enough wind for arcsB-Roc - 30-5-2012 at 01:51 PM
Depower all the way.
Shameless plug, I am selling my like new yetis. You could get both my 4.5m and use it as a trainer and grow into it as a high wind kite along with my
6 for moderate winds for the price of one montana or frenzy.Drewculous - 30-5-2012 at 02:46 PM
I thought you meant which depower is best... And which fb is best
No dude, go depower... Without question... Like everyone said, bigger jumps, better hang time... Still partial to my charger and other arcs tho :D
What surface you ride on? What winds do you get usually? How big are ya?shortlineflyer - 30-5-2012 at 03:08 PM
semi rough grass soccer field
on a good day wind ranges from 7 to 15
i weigh 190 lbs
I landboard and buggyikemiester - 30-5-2012 at 04:27 PM
I think you could get a bigger arc to work... a 15, 16, or 19:Ange09:B-Roc - 30-5-2012 at 04:32 PM
For low winds I'd recommend a foil over an arc unless you want to deal with pre inflation issues or carry a portable leaf blower to assist you.shortlineflyer - 30-5-2012 at 04:36 PM
i can carrya fan, that doesnt bother me, its just that i dont have alot of moneyFeyd - 30-5-2012 at 04:38 PM
Not sure what ur wind is but a big arc could possibly work but whatever manufacturer, I agree depow is the way to go.
Broader wind range alone is worth it.mougl - 30-5-2012 at 04:41 PM
From what I'm finding, larger arcs really start to come alive in 12-15 mph. I'd suggest a depower foil maybe 14-15m.shortlineflyer - 30-5-2012 at 04:55 PM
I think a 14-15m kite will turn too slow for me
it will make it hard for me to redirect because i wont have enough room at my local field where i fly 80 percent of the timeB-Roc - 30-5-2012 at 05:15 PM

I find bigger kites don't have to be redirected so aggressively because they have so much more float as long as you don't send them too far behind you
it is OK that you don't bring them back in front of you. You may not roll away fully powered but you'll land soft enough.
If that is a true concern for you though, then your only alternative is a 8m-ish fixed bridle which will be great around 7 and quite something else at

what about a 12m ranger or montana or frenzyshortlineflyer - 30-5-2012 at 05:27 PM

If a good day is 7 - 15 then the 19m Venom Arkay has for sale may be worth a look?
I can't speak for the Venoms but my 18m turns Just fast enough for my small park and serves me well in 7 - 15mph. At 15 I have the luxury of moving to
15m / 12m arcs.Feyd - 31-5-2012 at 06:21 PM
12m Ranger is awesome in light winds and turns fast for a big girl.dandre - 1-6-2012 at 05:01 AM
Don't go with FB for landboarding/ serious jumping.
I mean it's fine if thats what you got, but a depower has more safety features and stupid awesome loftPHREERIDER - 1-6-2012 at 06:21 AM
depower is my choice,
definitelt the biggest difference between the 2 types FB/depower. has to do with rider balance and technique.
FB most all the balance with the kite is thru the shoulders and upper body, typically "unhooked " but usually with a handy strop for cruise and
breaks.
Depower the balance is thru the hips and legs because of the harness. which can be unhooked but most depower units are best hooked in.
which is best? depower for range, and safety unbeatable.
FB is where most ALL start in kiting in general, so the intro to LAND BOARD is mostly FB that progresses to harnessed(strop) then eventually to
depower.
kite pilot skills are somewhat different to yield the same airs, basically the kite action is the same, just FB operated by handles and depower thru
a bar system.
