jellis - 7-6-2012 at 04:27 PM

Labor Day looks to be on Monday the 3rd of September. Then SOBB will start Saturday September 1st and run through Sunday September 9 .

Bladerunner - 7-6-2012 at 04:30 PM

I'm in !

kiteboyza - 7-6-2012 at 07:07 PM

good enough for me....

arkay - 7-6-2012 at 07:37 PM

too bad it's not connected with wsikf dates...

WIllardTheGrey - 8-6-2012 at 01:35 AM

I'll be there that last weekend. Thursday - Sunday. :bigok:

EDIT I lied see below. /EDIT

csa_deadon - 8-6-2012 at 02:38 AM

The only question remains is, whether Willard will finally meet kiteboyza! :dunno:

kiteboyza - 8-6-2012 at 06:47 AM

nope, I'm a first weekend man, we all know it's the best one...Shape up Willard, get your ass there...lol

WIllardTheGrey - 8-6-2012 at 08:51 AM

Tell that to the retail industry. :flaming: Or start SOBB on a non-holiday weekend.:dunno:

Dagon - 8-6-2012 at 09:49 AM

I had a lot of fun this spring, I should make it up there for this. Unfortunately it is on a week that would be difficult for me to be there, I could potentially come Aug 31- Sept 3. I will also probably need to buy a big ass kite. most of mine are too small for those low coastal Oregon winds

WIllardTheGrey - 29-6-2012 at 03:33 AM

I'm afraid I'll be missing this one. Grampa's 100th birthday party is on that Saterday in Eugene, to much driving for one day of kiting :dunno:

macboy - 29-6-2012 at 12:33 PM

Anyone on hand that could deliver a baby if I can convince the wife?

arkay - 29-6-2012 at 01:39 PM

Actually yes, lots of midwives down here ;) But looks like I may be on the road to yellowstone then. Plan is to be there just after the holiday weekend when the crowd clears out. If anyone will be as WSIKF just before then I'll be there and hope to be flying big kites :D

sand flea - 29-6-2012 at 06:23 PM

We have Sean!
Bring your wife, she'll be fine!

The event spans 2 weekends ?

Dagon, I plan on arriving on Friday the 31st. Leave on Tuesday. Most of the Canadians that can get down will be there that weekend.

The first weekend is a holiday weekend so I can't get the time off work.

kiteboyza - 23-7-2012 at 06:29 AM

sand flea - 23-7-2012 at 08:16 PM

That is so good to hear!
I am so ready for another SOBB buggy safari!!!
I will be there for the week, I'm already dreamin' about it.
Nothing to worry about but the wind.

To anyone thinking about attending SOBB remember this is a FREE event! We are fortunate to have a free place to camp and the people really are fantastic. The Sunset Beach Bums always provide you a buggy event you will never forget and possibly the best time of your life!

Sincerely,
Chris

Bladerunner - 8-8-2012 at 04:30 PM

RonH - 12-8-2012 at 03:56 PM

ChrisH - 16-8-2012 at 12:20 PM

ChrisH - 25-8-2012 at 12:24 PM

Only a week away!! Woooohooo! Can't wait!!

sand flea - 25-8-2012 at 12:41 PM

I plan to arrive Saturday morning and be there for the week
So Stoked!
Im bringing some Ruby Ale too!

buggeyed - 25-8-2012 at 04:52 PM

Three more days until I'm on the beach.Looking forward to seeing everybody.
Any report on the beach approach condition. Is it driveable without four wheel drive?

sunset-Jim - 25-8-2012 at 07:06 PM

The approach isn't looking very good. But both Del Rey and Gearhart approaches are good, so getting on and off shouldn't be a problem. Had some great runs today and the weather forecast is looking pretty good.

heliboy50 - 25-8-2012 at 11:41 PM

And some great practice getting a kia unstuck....... :embarrased: Thanks again, Jim. Had some good riding after you headed out. More tomorrow.

sand flea - 26-8-2012 at 07:30 AM

Jim do you take your big van out on the Del Rey entrance and just drive down to the mile posts?

thx
Chris

tdmc96 - 26-8-2012 at 08:28 AM

Not to worry guys...I'll be down on Friday morning ready to pull everyone out...make sure you have tow points on your vehicle.

Ken(K3)

sunset-Jim - 26-8-2012 at 08:52 AM

That's what I did yesterday Chris. Just didn't trust it. I might add that it's not necessarily the approach that will get ya. And that's all I have to say about that (Josh)

ChrisH - 26-8-2012 at 09:51 AM

Is there somebody we can call to get the runway cleared before sobb?

sunset-Jim - 26-8-2012 at 11:30 AM

there's going to be a call made, but doesn't look promising considering what happened last year. They did come out and do something after they were told how a few close calls of accidents happened. All they did was was put signs warning people to slow down.

ChrisH - 26-8-2012 at 03:41 PM

Oh, OK. Thanks Jim.

I resemble that. :moon: In all fairness I did wait until I made it through the difficult part of the approach before I got stuck the first time. Went down and checked Del Ray last night. It was fine save for the jerk in front of me that went down, got to the soft sand and tore a huge cookie right out in front. Burned 'em off on the way back up too. I love that.

We went on at Del Ray today though and it was not too bad. Buggied in the storm- steady 27 gusting into the 30's. Raining so hard I could barely see where I was going, but it was a blast.

sand flea - 27-8-2012 at 06:24 PM

Josh, you are an animal to be out in there in those conditions,
way to fly.

I'm ready for SOBB

buggeyed - 28-8-2012 at 12:44 PM

Thank for the report. We're on our way early tomorrow.Hoping to be out for the afternoon low tide
I'm ready to roll.:roll::roll:

Scudley - 28-8-2012 at 07:26 PM

Already here.

Bladerunner - 29-8-2012 at 05:32 AM

At the moment the forcast is for NW winds all weekend.

What does NW mean in relation to the beach? Side on ?

sunset-Jim - 29-8-2012 at 01:23 PM

NW would be that if you are facing north, the wind would be coming from about 10:30 position.

Bladerunner - 29-8-2012 at 05:43 PM

I guess I am asking if the beach runs exactly north / south ? Meaning we can expect side onshore winds with a NW.

Somehow I thought the beach doesn't run true north / south and a NW wind is bad for long runs? Your typical wind!?

Now Jim is going to tell me N.W refers the the whole region of the United States that I will drive through ! :P

Coming from the North the beach runs SW so a NW wind is not Ideal, a SW wind would be better, but with a good kite you can get some long runs in a NW.

tdmc96 - 29-8-2012 at 08:09 PM

A NW wind is not to bad.
It may take a little bit of taching to get to the ship wreck but will make one hell of a downwind run to camp.

24 hours and counting....just finished packing......STOKED!!

Ken(K3)

Bladerunner - 30-8-2012 at 06:26 AM

Thanks MDK. (see you are a Good TR ! ) That is pretty much what I thought.

Weathernetwork is calling for wind every day ! Unfortunately it seems consistantly NW .

I will see for myself starting tomorrow!

Hope Kiteboyza is OK ? He should have hit the road already and we haven't heard from him?

sunset-Jim - 30-8-2012 at 06:52 AM

That pretty well sums it up... :bigok:

csa_deadon - 30-8-2012 at 04:41 PM

Looks like Kiteboyza is on the road. He's posting road trip pics already on FB.

sand flea - 30-8-2012 at 06:22 PM

I will arrive before 6 PM Friday
Saturday morning is just too long of wait!

When are the rest of you guys going to arrive?

SO STOKED!
sand flea

tdmc96 - 30-8-2012 at 06:39 PM

Just heading out now....I'll be on the beach in the morning
See you soon.....STOKED!!!

Ken(K3)

Bladerunner - 30-8-2012 at 07:32 PM

Leaving soon .

Not sure I will take the car out on the beach if approaches are like last year. I might hang up at the shipwreck until we check in during high tide. Then the evening on Sunset!

WooPwOOp! :roll::bouncy::roll:

bigkid - 30-8-2012 at 09:32 PM

leaving Seattle at 2:30pm, 3 hours to get through Tacoma, eat dinner, drive like a mad man, should be at Sunset by 8:00 Saturday morning

I made it on at Del Rey no problems and towing a trailer, Ken. You can do it! Better than a long walk. Just pay attention to the tides. The beach gets small fast down there.

Morrie Williams - 31-8-2012 at 06:06 AM

Leaving Westport around noon today, should be at Phil's buggy camp around 2:00.

jellis - 31-8-2012 at 03:12 PM

Heading out now, should be there in, wait I live here so I'm here already.

bigkid - 3-9-2012 at 08:19 AM

Good burgers, good friends, good place, good drinks, good doggy treats, and great hosts. If you missed last night you have to wait until next year to enjoy all the great stuff and people again. Will have to rethink the doggie treats, the wife wasn't happy.
