My pooch is afraid of my kite

pyro22487 - 11-6-2012 at 07:55 PM

I was hopeing to build a Buex box, (Sorry if I miss spelled his name kitemaker4) but it turns out he is terrified of kites. Other than laying the kite out and slowly moving it around and increasing its speed is there anything else that I can try.

Thanks in advance guys.

I guess 1 good thing is that he is won't try to eat my kites.

I have a Corgie, and he's afraid of kites too.
It works out for me, because the park I fly at doesn't allow dogs at all.

My dog goes nuts every time a kite goes in the air...so no flying fields for her either...

my dog was scared for a while then she got use to it. I just let her get use to the kites at her own pace.
I think kitemaker4 is a female BTW

My dog goes nuts when a kite or hot air balloon is in the air. Kitemaker4 is Susan and her dog's name is Beau.

Beaver Bob's name is Bobby and Mine is Dave. I'm not sure what Mike's name is. I have a dog and a cat. My cat's breath smells like cat food some times. Other times it smells like cat butt I'm assuming. It's not pleasant either way. I'm really board so I think I'll go eat some lunch.

Lol well I did spell Susan's Dog's name wrong I know how to pronounce it. Just not spell it. I met most if not all of you at NABX and you must have been bored Dave. My name is David, also. The wolfskymute pictured above is Named Jakoda

wolf+husky+malamute= wolfskymute. He may be part otter or something too. He loves water. He is going to hate NABX unless he learns to like the kites.

Well I put a kite on like 5 foot lines and took him to the park spent about an hour and a half working with him to see if we could get him not so afraid. It got to the point where the kite landed on him and he just looked at me like HEY what was that for.

Thanks for the update.....wonder if I could do the same and break my border collie's neurosis over my kites. She bolts. Luckily we live a few houses from the field - not lucky that she has to cross a road on her own when she takes off. She stays at home now

Yep start slow. Lay the kite out and slowly make sure they see it. Then I tied the leash onto my belt and sent the kite up. Of course he paniced then I landed the kite immediately. Took him over so he could see it and inspect it again. Just keep reassuring your dog and of course rewarding them helps. But definitely put the kite on short strings it makes the walk to and from the kite so much quicker.
