Rescued

About a year ago I had asked you guys for opinions on dog breeds......

After a year of trying to land a Vizsla puppy with no luck, we came upon this Border Collie, Chocolate Lab mix that needed to be rescued and given a good home.

His personality and cuteness was irresistable......he won me and my family over in a heart beat......

We have had him for about 5 weeks now. He is smart as a whip.....

He easily crate trained within 3 days and has only had a half dozen number 1 accidents in the house, which was a big relief.

He knows what toys are his, but still likes to grab the occasional dirty sock out of one of my boys rooms so we still need to keep an eye on him.

He has been a welcome addition to the family.

My boys chose his name which I think fits him well......

Introducing......."Coffee"

I laid a kite out in the yard to see what he would do.....he thought it was a big blanket for him to have a nap on......gotta see what he does at the field next when I try to fly one......

Nice! I'd love to have another dog but ... can't be bothered with the poo.

that's a real cute pup Ryan .... looks like a lab face with border collie blue eyes .... I can see the irresistable part ... I am like Sam though ... cat person. Excellent choice to rescue.

Coffee .... is there a story behind name ??? ... or because of his color .....
...
... very cute ...

Thanks all...he's one sweet puppy......late night at the fireworks last night......it took a bit for him to get used to the booms.....he settled down pretty quick though......

No story behind the name....we were tossing names out and my youngest said hey....he looks like coffee and the everyone liked it....

@Cheezy...how you been??? How's the recovery??? You back 100% now??? I haven't been following things on PKF to closely lately......so much going on at home......

@BibBear ...Cats are cool, but with 3 people in this family with cat allergies they are out of the question......besides you can't take your cat swimming...lol

@Todd....wish I still had that Airdaile breeders name and address......if your still stuck in Denver you are close to him and if memory serves me April was his litter month so he would have pups ready now......and you wouldn't have to worry about a pouch shedding in your truck with an Airdale.....or a Kerry Blue for that matter.......

@BB he is a great family and a great people dog.....loves to give and receive affection.....

@Kami .....We have an open lot behind us and are making great progress at training him to do his business there.....if that fails I have 3 boys that so far are doing a great job of keeping the yard poo free.......

Beautiful pup for sure!!! We've had Sheira (our now 7month old chocolate lab) for almost 4 weeks. She's been a bit of handful at times but has fit right in at our house. Got spayed and shots last Friday and we start obedience training this coming Monday. :wee: Never thought I'd be a dog person but it feels great seeing her learn the few things we've been able to teach her so far. Just remember to give her tons of exercise so she doesn't get bored and become overweight is one of the first things the instructor told us last night at orientation. We switched her food from Purina to Acana and that has helped in the excessive pooping department. Congrats and good luck with your new baby he's gonna be a great companion to everyone.:thumbup::thumbup:

Congrats on the rescue dog. He looks like quite a find. We were fortunate to get a rescue dog too and she is the greatest pup we've had. They seem to know when they are rescued.

@shaggs interesting point on the pooping.....I think we will try the switch from Purina to Blue Buffalo or another top shelf brand and see if we get the same results.......our oldest son is into cross country so he has been taking the puppy out on early morning warmup jogs.......the puppy can out sprint him on very short distances but doesn't have the stamina to go the long distances yet......he only goes out for the half mile warm up and then comes home for breakfast and a big bowl of water before taking another nap.......they run the dirt roads behind our development.....nice and soft for his growing joints.....

I def get what your saying phil......it really seems like he knows we rescued him.....he is really a happy affectionate pooch......

Everyday I am surprised at how fast he learns new things and how much he wants to please.....it is truly amazing......

we use Blue Buffalo, Guinnie seems to like it.
