Phantom Mk I vs Mk II?

macboy - 5-7-2012 at 08:10 PM

Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison between the old and new?

Drewculous - 5-7-2012 at 09:19 PM

Yes... But its too late for me to get into it lmao!

the new ones are way faster through the air... Thats all im saying tonight

Yes, but not each specific size back to back. Overall the P2 is different from original Phantom and there are some observations and comparisons in an earlier thread:

original phantom total srtaight line traction train. new Phantoms, nimble ! easy as that

Bladerunner - 6-7-2012 at 06:45 AM

I have not tried the new Phanny but from what I read it sounds more like a Charger refined than a Phantom ? Am I off track on that ? Similar bridle , straps etc.. ? Nimble , fast turning ?

I would be interested in back to back opinions on how the Charger and Phanny II compare.

Does the new Phanny hunt aggresively for zenith ? Demand the constant attention I found my Chargers needed?

BeamerBob - 6-7-2012 at 08:05 AM

They need some attention and they move around a bit but I haven't feared them getting turned behind me at speed. They stay pointed forward more or less. I need lots more time on them to learn their ways but so far I think they are going to be great kites. I'm worried about the 6m having some issues (at least mine and Geokite's) but that can be worked out.

I'm not sure I would call it a more refined Charger. The Charger 2 fills that spot. The Ph2 is higher AR, different VPC and flies considerably different. Last season I would periodically fly my 15m Charger with my 15m Ph2 and it was striking how much more agressive the Charger is compared to a Phantom2. Is there some overlap/crossover in performance between the two? Sure, but they are in my opinion very very different kites. Both have thier place in my quiver. Think of it as if a Charger and a Phantom 1 had a baby and you kinda get the Phantom 2.

I was watching some footage that I found from last winter and I noticed that I spent a lot of time with the kite parked at the edge of the window with my hands off the bar. I think it illustrates the lack of agressive autozenith the Charger has.

IMO it's much like the middle Arcs (V2, Syns Scorps etc.) but can be flown it a much broader wind range due to better low end and better depow. Also, the Ph2 is as mellow or aggressive as you make it with less chance of it biting you in the face if you screw up or lose track of the kite for a second. And Phree's comparison is good, the old Phantom was a cruiser. The New Phantom can cruise if you want but she'll actually finish a turn before sunset.:D I've flown my 12m w/o the VPC and it flies beautifully and it is a bit more stabile.

It is definately the most versitile Arc I've flown so far. PL is marketing it as a "land kite" but it is perfectly suitable for water use too. So between it's built in flight character, the ability to tune it via internal adjustments and VPC adjust (and/or removal) you can really make it do just about anything you want.

.....are you trying to convince me that I need to buy Bladerunner's Charger so I can fully understand?

Feyd - 6-7-2012 at 06:19 PM

Hehehe just calling it as I fly it. In regards to snapping up BR's Charger, to qoute Ferris Beuller as he describes Cameron's dad's Ferrari....

"It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.":smug: The Charger is clearly the Ferrari of the Arc line.

BeamerBob - 6-7-2012 at 06:59 PM

I want to click "Like" on the last 4 posts!

If the Charger is the Ferrari of the PL line, what is the Phantom II? Aston Martin?

Feyd - 7-7-2012 at 06:59 AM

Hells yes.

pbc - 7-7-2012 at 07:45 AM

I'm lovin' this thread!

macboy - 7-7-2012 at 09:42 AM

I'm starting to wonder how Bladerunner is going to even come close to recouping his cost of the Charger after paying all you guys out....:puzzled:

macboy - 7-7-2012 at 09:45 AM

Well so much for that.......the Charger's gone (congrats BR) and I'm still in the dark.

Maybe it's time to start the creative book keeping and get mougl's Phantom up here and find out for myself kite to kite......

Bladerunner - 7-7-2012 at 04:38 PM

Yup , Charger is gone.

After my 1st 5 hours on the Eskimo it is with no regrets ! I am sure I will go to it more often than I did my old Ferrari.

I stuck with the Camero nature of My synergies and VW bus nature of my Phantom for now ! :Ange09:

geokite - 7-7-2012 at 05:01 PM

Camero? I was thinking Accord

Then I have video of me blowing the doors off a Ferrari ( Ivanpah ) and Jet ( Vapor ) flying my Accord ( Synergy ) and riding my Jalopy ( Frankinbuggy ) :smug:

I am admittedely a " Sunday driver " ! Don't need the storage costs on a Ferrari ! :spin:
