Stainless Bearings?? Worth it??

crazyherb - 9-7-2012 at 04:37 PM

I've noticed beach riding seems to eat standard bearings pretty quick...even with regular maintenance.

Is it worth the extra $$$ to go with stainless?

Only through half a season on my current set and I can feel slop starting....

I guess my point is, you can get three sets of standards to one set of stainless...almost seems worth it to just run standard and toss em when they get sloppy...and BULK order..LOL...maybe I've just been riding too much...

Opinions? Thanks!

they are disposable , i do 3-4 full sets a year. SS may give you more but the slop goes on and on and on and can destroy bearing race grip and melt down the wheel. they seize and lock more so it seems.

$ is about the same , i like the frequent fresh esp. at speeds 40 + slop ain't what you want. they should humm like bees, not roar like motor boat.

several threads about this

Just what I needed to know!

don't know if you know but you have to pick up a tube of marine grade grease , take off the shields and pack them suckas like jelly filled donuts, put the shields back on, then coat the whole thing with grease again.

The idea is to keep the sand on the outside of the bearing, ive made landboard bearing last 2-3 years doing this....

PS... the best way to pack a bearing is put a nice fat blob of grease in your palm and scrap the sides of the bearing on the grease like your scraping beandip into a fritos scoop..... make sure to pack it evenly.

edit*grease comes in the cardboard tubes that look like the ones used for biscuts.

here's a tip i stole from the blo-kart people, on the outside rear bearing use a pvc cap [ pluming dept. ] and some dental wax i got from my dentist .wicked good ,that sucker won't come off unless you pull really hard.paul
