Making a clean sweep of it.....

bigkid - 18-7-2012 at 09:54 AM

After NABX and NABSA last year, my wife, Renee, and I talked about going to the East Coast for the following month for WBB, JIBE, and what ever else is up for the month or so.

By no means am I demanding to know the dates at this time, but is it possible to participate in all of them and still drive rather than fly? Renee has 5 weeks vacation and since I don't work, we can drive the house from NABX to the East Coast and them home. Would be a nice vacation and see parts of the HOME LAND my wife has not been to yet.
If it would take longer than 5 weeks I would be willing to send my wife home and continue on and have her fly back to finish the trip.
Renee's work has some dumb rule about not scheduling 5 weeks of vacation at the last minute, medical clinics are so unreasonable. :puzzled:

So, any of you that have been to those events, think it is possible to make a clean sweep?:wee:

JIBE 2013 is May 8-11, 2013. Not sure WBB Spring 2013 has been finalized yet. Might want to contact Rich directly.

What are you driving and how much do you like driving?

Driving is feasible especially if you can switch off. Just might be a little ragged on the other end.

There was a time when I considered it fun, but there's an insomnia gene in play though (if you haven't figured out from some of my post timestamps already).

ATB,
Sam

Sam, Insomnia is one thing I do alot of. 2:30am is the best time to call the Europe. 4:30am is what time the wife gets up and, well you know what I'm talking about Right?

Besides the motorhome has cruise control, I can crawl into bed for a little snooze if I get tired.

With easy driving (under 500 mpd) you are 5 days from wildwood at Ivanpah, and 2 days from there to Jekyll Island. Add in as many look and see days as you want. WBB is your only ? to see how spaced out things are. Should be a gap between WBB and JIBE since they both want low crowds and 2pm low tides unless they share the same weekend. Not good for either event with riders making the trip to both lately.

Just a heads up, JIBE and WBB are generally 2 weeks apart due to planning around the tides. If you do not mind that little detail, I'm sure it is doable.

Hey Jeff, glad to hear that you are thinking about coming to the Spring WBB 2013 event! Typically it is held around the 3rd weekend in April. Even though tide data may be available now, it is the Events calander for Wildwood that we need to contend with the most. Wildwood is unique in that it host a ton of "shoulder"events like soccer tournaments, cheer, basketball, baseball, motorcross, monster trucks, etc right on the beach or somewhere right next to the beach. These events fill all the hotels in the area and of course make the beach very unaccessible. Not that we couldn't get on the beach, just that there would be way to many people on the beach.

So far the third weekend in April has been working out both tide wise, and event wise, so that being said, probabaly round the weekend of the 20th. Not set in stone, just a good idea of when it may be! That puts us about 2 weeks after NABX, and 2 weeks or so before JIBE! Gives people plenty of time to travel to each of the events if they choose to do so!

Hope to see you and your wife in the spring!

Thanks Rich,
We even talked about parking the motorhome and flying home for a week or 2 and then fly back. I'm sure I can find a place or to to park the house for a bit while we fly around the country side. We are talking about it, and talking is 95% of the battle.
I could even ride with Todd for a few day to waste some time between events, or find a few places to buggy, heck I could do a lot of things. :bigok:

I have a new item on my bucket list... a trip like this!

Start a blog, Jeff. That will fill the moments where insomnia kicks in. And will fill curious minds out here as well.

A blog? it's hard enough to post here. was watching the old tv show route 66, might be interesting to do a photo blog of the sights.:eureka:
On the way home after its all done I can play Radar Love on the stereo to help pass the time, or On the highway to Hell. Quite a few songs come to mind that would work for the videos.

I have wanted to do this as well. Snowkiting between NABX and travel to the east coast. Not enough time off to make it happen.
If you have all sorts of time you can sort of fit DBBB in as well !

I have been a big fan of deep fried turkey for a long time, and the thought of an event where they are cooking 10 to 15 birds is to much to think about :eekdrull: This is the 1st year we will not be having turkey with family and my wife has been throwing out different ideas of something to do. Most of them involve the beach to some degree. Maybe I can include a plane ride with the beach and turkey this year, will have to wait and see.
All I can think of now is hot Cajan rub turkey, deep fried in peanut oil..................Man o man, got to leave tonight for a NAPKA event at Grayland for the weekend. I can make room for the propane, the cooker and the pot, can get the peanut oil on the way but the bird is frozen. Fresh turkeys are so expensive...............Oh man..............I am hungry...............

I've been thinking about trying to put a group together to go to DBBB this year. I'm thinking if I can get another driver or 2 we can take my truck and can haul gear for others that would like to fly out. Who's interested??
