PL Charger Question

Hello Charger users out there. I have a question for you. I am wondering about the difference in handling between my other kites - frenzy and fs unity - and my new Chargers. I have a 10m and 15m Charger. I was able to fly the 10m Charger and noticed that it handles much differently than my other kites, although the wind was not strong. What i really noticed was the launch and how often i had to tug and tug on the center lines to bring it up in the air, and then once it got to about 45 degrees it would fly just fine. If i didnt tug on the center lines, it would fall and it would,not even respond hardly to my steering, so i couldnt even steer it across the wind window to gather power like i can with my other kites. Do you know what i mean? It could have been that the wind was just too low. Is that what happens with Chargers when the wind is too low? Other than that, when i first flew it and worked it around it was so much fun. It responds quickly and self landing is comfortable. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I'm sure some other arc users will chime in here, but this is usually a problem I run into when mine aren't fully inflated. My Synergy and especially my Phantom take a lot of tugging on the front lines to get them up in the air when I get impatient and don't want for them to fill up all the way.

Trimmed wrong - too tight on the rear lines?

This is normal in very light winds. Arcs like to have air flowing past the leading edge, so in very light wind it helps to keep it moving. If you are launching from low in the window down wind (as most bridled foils), wind wont be flowing across the kite (LE to TE) until it reaches the edge of the window, or until you start moving it across the window. Pumping the centerlines also forces air across the kite.

Arcs like to be flown! You will find that they are fast through the window when the bar is out, and have more steering and power when the bar is pulled. Combining these qualities will unleash the magic. Have fun!

Thanks a lot for the input! I played around with the lines a little but I can try more. I think though that it most likely was from too light of winds. Now, just waiting for some wind, and hopefully before I head back to Korea. Thanks again!

concur with Kami............. light winds or not make sure your line lengths are equal..............find a a strong anchor point and stretch the rears equal to the fronts..................like the diversity in your quiv...arcs and a FSer:thumbup:

Kami and Sendit both brought up good points for sure. My guess is that if its not doing a bowtie or clapping and it's just slow to get off the ground but flies well once it's up your wind speed is a little low and not so much an inflation issue. I like tighter rear lines and she'll fly pretty well even if the back lines are "too tight". The Charge especially likes to be flown agressively.

Could be an internal setting. Go full loose on you internals and see if that helps. It ill if it's light winds as well.

Yeah I would blame the wind first. Arcs are heavy with the spars and lots of material. You need more wind than a depower foil or a fixed bridle.

Not sure on Chargers but i used to fly a 10m Venom and it never came out below 25mph. I don't think you would get far with a 10m in light wind even if you did get it launched!

I originally thought I had big tuning problems with my 12m Cult and that the relaunch was poor but it turned out it just didn't really work at the bottom end of its launchable wind range. Took it out in 15-16mph and it flew like a dream and hopped up back up off the water no problem at all...

get a big high aspect fixed bridle or a big flysurfer for light winds.
