kiteyak

well I was told not to bother so I did it anyway.... I bought an 11ft whitewater kayak for a 100$ couple months ago. boat wouldn’t go straight and i was real disapointed ... so I glued 3 fins on the tail from a soft surfboard... it worked great, boat went with, against and across the current straight like a missile.... I call it a thruster kayak. it looks like a Hawaiian big wave board….. anyway I took it out Sunday threw up a 2/3m trainer and did a 3mile down winder before I started playing perpendicular to the wind. It was great.......I had a wake going on behind the boat, had it on edge, steered it where I wanted all w/ the foil......I’m pretty sure that was a successful venture....I was certainly grinning ear to ear... I’m definitely gonna do it again I know that!!!

That is awesome! Glad you had a great time....now we need some video or at least some pics of the mods to the kayak. I always wanted to do something like this too, but figured that it would never work unless I spent big bucks on a high-end kayak.
How did you launch the kite? on land and then get in the boat or ?...Looking forward to hearing more.

I pulled the boat on to the beach launched on land and got back in the boat...i was in a bay wind blowing east @12/15.... first moments getting in and going were hectic as hell as I really wasn’t set up to pull this off. couldn't even stow my paddle properly........but now its going to get some legitimate efforts on my part....learned a lot on the go.. I can surely set this rig up way more proper for the activity. I think w/ a foot controlled rudder addition it will do way better...... right now its a 107$ investment. I have boat pics in my phone...just cant put them up, don’t know how... but if anyone has an email add I will send them along........

You got that for 100 bucks? Seems like an amazing deal. All the kayaks around me are like 200+ and look waay cheaper/worse.

Looks identical to one I just picked up at 3x the price. Maybe I'll join you with the steerable rudder idea. Those things are designed to not hold a straight line so adding a removable rudder would give you the best of both worlds.

For a kayak you should use a sled or parafoil single line kite like this

I bought 2 of these for fishing,to carry baits offshore. They are somewhat manueverable in the window,by adjusting which of the two keels has more line.It makes it very good for a yak ,and if you have a rudder it will be even easier.

Well ,not bass exactly. It's made to go out in the ocean. 14'4" long and can carry 650 lbs. I will make and post vids too. ;)
