Can anybody give me some advice on getting my sliding turns a bit more refined? I can carve pretty well which is maybe why i havn't learnt heel to
heel slides properly!
I can do one but it involves getting really low on the board and hanging on tight while I swing the kite back accross the window. I quite often mess
up!
If I try and get the board sliding before i swing the kite back past 12 I tend to just stop! If I wait til its at 12 i don't have enough power.
Can anyone talk me through doing it properly?PHREERIDER - 29-8-2012 at 06:08 AM
getting low on the board actually ADDS grip, laying back lightens grip but the kite needs to be powered to transfer balance.
getting your head back, power stroke the kite, PUSH OUT the board thru the heels .
kite should end up , either HIGH in the window so you stop OR deep in the window to power you thru a sliding transition.ikemiester - 29-8-2012 at 10:28 AM
I don't even know how to explain how I do them.... it just kindof happens? :ticking::puzzled::dunno:carltb - 29-8-2012 at 10:52 AM
this might help a bit.PHREERIDER - 29-8-2012 at 12:15 PM
you have to transfer BALANCE to the harness/kite, which takes the weight pressure off the board and it slides out easily. bodily position/ head
position is away from the boards center like laying back. ESP. for the sliding transition.
the UNWEIGHTED switches, as in carls vid, are accomplished the same way.
its a transfer of BALANCED weight so the board slides out , either for a sliding transition OR a sliding switch (as in CTB vid)
the KITE has to be powered enough to allow easy board slippage.
POWER -->BALANCE TRANSFER -->POWER
if you don't have enough power in the kite it all slides to a stop.ikemiester - 29-8-2012 at 02:16 PM

this video https://vimeo.com/38064800 is a look at sliding transitions with looping power around 0:55 to 1:04 is decent smokin' of group them all linked
together ...it is a common default braking effort and power soak when things hot , or after jumps for a short stop and direction change. they are
though out this video and used considerable in general for bleeding power...and so fun in doing so!
and this was on a flexboardz HAIZEKamikuza - 29-8-2012 at 10:02 PM
I barely got into sliding turns with the landboard before I went full-retard on the water... but one thing I learned was you need speed to slide.
What I was doing was turning upwind with speed and gradually edging harder until the wheels slid, then redirecting and shifting weight.
Oddly enough, you can do the same thing on water lives2fly - 30-8-2012 at 01:41 AM
Thanks guys. All the vids were really useful.
I think i'm taking too much speed and power out before I start the transition. I'm using the kite to slow for the turn instead of using the board.
I think i just need to man up a bit and work on it powered.
Its 25kts+ this weekend so will be out on the water but will have a sliding session next time its high teens or low twenties.
Do you not ride a landboard at all anymore Kami? I am getting more and more into being on the water but the landboard is more exciting when the wind
is not as strong. I tend to hit the water when the wind hits 20kts - its less painful when you f*** up! + my 9m is a dream to fly Kamikuza - 30-8-2012 at 04:58 AM
Nah, water has taken over :o thought I'd get back out this winter but the sun sets so "early" here that by the time work is over at 4, there's not
much time to ride after a setup... and I kitesurf for most of the year anyway :D
Having a bunch of kites means you've always got power :D size of the 'parks' here is the problem - I *could* ride the 21 in super-light wind on a
landboard but with only 50 yards downwind till powerlines etc... you see the issue.
IIRC I found sliding to be much easier than I thought it would be... transitions came easily after that. I don't ever remember ballsing them up
either... well, painfully ballsing them up anyway. I remember one slide on the bum lives2fly - 30-8-2012 at 09:08 AM
Yeah I think i would be less keen to carry on land kiting if i didn't have some good spots to ride.
I'm not sure if I will kitesurf in the middle of winter to be honest! even now while the water is nice and warm I sometimes just can't be bothered
getting wet!
Kitesurfing is the most fun kitesport by a long way but its also a lot of faffing around! light wind, cold weather or limited time and the landboard
always has a place for me.
I definately need more kites though, a smaller depower foil, a 19 or 21 flysurfer, a 15m+ LEI and a 7m will do the job i think - for now :evil:ikemiester - 30-8-2012 at 03:26 PM

There's a Speed2 19 going for $1,000 on kiteforum - looks like it's great condition...PHREERIDER - 30-8-2012 at 05:41 PM

you know i've always wonder how guys get permission to ride at turf farms , i've ridden a few session on the north end in a soccer field on nice
north 15mph and after about 3 hours i had burned a serious ribbon of DIRT on cross wind patch. the grass was gone! with power it plows like
anything else. though i admit wet is too slippery, besides the mess( far worse than sand) the meat tweaks and falls are nasty. we get this nasty
snail #@%$#! thats so slick on the beach patches of that are just like ice.
surface texture counts! no doubtjamtmann31 - 31-8-2012 at 10:16 PM
Phreerider, I think I've watched 4 of your videos. They're lame - the music's worse. I can barely get through 30 seconds let alone 5 minutes or more
LOL!Kamikuza - 1-9-2012 at 04:34 AM

Kami: Ouch!
Phreerider: That a boy, glad you enjoy them. Lol on the impressive gibber. Those of us from the fringes just call it how it is without even realizing
it.
