!VIDEO!Stuff Happens!

bobalooie57 - 24-9-2012 at 05:31 PM

So I got together with stillflyin(Rick) and his friend Ron at Southwick Beach yesterday. Rick has his home built buggy, and his friend has built himself a landsailor with a 5M sail. Winds were west at 20-g30!, but fell off through the day. There was a section of beach we were calling the 'moguls' if you can picture it, and I hit those at about 25mph and this video is the result. I'm O.K., just a bruise on my thigh, and my pride! I have over an hour of vid to go thru, I just wanted to post this little gem right away. I had a great day otherwise, over 54 miles travelled with a top speed of 28.2 mph.
The lens was a little foggy, sorry about that.

Bob I think what you are running into is the archeological remains of a summer sand castle encampment. I saw a little kid step into one of those pits and disappear. That is some super fast speed on that beach!

Holy poo-poo that made me laugh! Don't get me wrong- I am glad you are ok but the video was nice and calm....low volume..... nice cruizin...... and then....... BAM!!! SLAM!! ROLL OVER AND HEAVY BREATHING!!

It actually scared me when it happened!

I thought it was going to happen when you passed through the rock slide or the lumber yard part of the beach!

What length lines are you running? They look pretty short. I am going to watch again:smilegrin:

Yeah, I laughed too! After I made sure all my parts still moved the way they are supposed to! I think my front wheel left the ground, and I turned the wheel left in mid air, so when it came down, I went right over, wasn't expecting it either. Those lines are around 10M, great for that beach.

Hey..I hear metal scrapin' metal..!

What size Nasa were you flying? Isn't this where you tree'd a nasa once..?:puzzled:

bobalooie57 - 24-9-2012 at 06:27 PM

That's a 2.4M NPW5 by HQ. And yes, I have treed more than one kite here, though I've always managed to retrieve them without resorting to the saw... You have to fly where you can, and when the wind is good there, Southwick is one of the best kept secrets in the northeastern U.S. There were also 5 or 6 kite boarders there yesterday, they appear in some of my video, which I will be posting when I've edited some more.

Sweet bob! This is real kite sports, the pain and the pleasure... its definatly a sickness:thumbup:

Nasa Master's disaster laugher

That size sounds about the right 'driver' for the wind and line length... as I would pick from my 'bag 'o clubs'!

Flew on one(1!) meter line w/Nasa -same size- on 10ft wide, one mile long pavement along beach last week using Coyote Rollerblades. This is where these kites have their place and shine when you have space issues! But I did catch kite on a thorny beach rose bush when I got too close to birm/dune as Bikers passed, and had to rescue out of thorns...

:wee::wee::wee::wee::wee:

Please..some more from America's Funniest Kiting videos!

@Adam- "The Agony and the Ecstacy" lol

@ski-NASA and Coyotes-Now that's some video I'd like to see! How fast did you get going? Most of my vids are boring, the same beach, the same ride, that's why I needed to post this one, to show what fun this beach can be. There were a few moments where I wished I had a smaller NASA wing.

@ Pat- This was one of those sections where the wind blows the waves up on shore, and washes back several rolling "hills and valleys" in a row. I lost my composure after the first bump, and allowed the steering to slip. It was actually the second time it happened that day, I didn't have the camera on when it happened the first time.

not fast at all...wanted to go faster though...

skimtwashington - 25-9-2012 at 04:28 AM

But too lazy to go back to car and switch to my 3.5...... which was not ready to go as I needed to remove the short- but not short enough- 20 ft lines I had on it(easy)....but was a fun cruise anyhow. Faster woud have been nice. Next time...

Further more ...my 6.5 would have put me wicked fast -probably way too fast- for limited space w/ bikers and walkers. (Bridals also get longer as kite gets bigger).
..but even thought of that size- for a second, anyway! Then I might have had a AFKV(Americas Funniest Kiters Video) like you...but in fact -no video. Ohh whoooaa-no Go Prooo:no:

whoo-hoo, good to read that you're okay.
nice beach by the way....
