I have sold / shipped about a dozen kites ( and now a skatewing ) to the U.S.A. using USPS with no issues . I would not worry about that !
I have had issues with Canada Customs and things coming this way but it has never effected the seller. Only extra cost put on to me by CBSA .

I always ship insured for full value; ie. cost of the kite + cost of the shipping.
If something happens, no one looses.
I had one instance when a kiteboard arrived damaged, US buyer filed a claim, got all money back within 30days + offered to buy the damage kiteboard
from insurance for $25.
He got it and after some filling and glassing board was like new.

Any 50cm+, bow or sle bar with 23m+ lines will work.
