Fly or buy

stetson05 - 27-9-2012 at 12:38 PM

So whenever I have a dry spell and don't get to fly I find myself itching to get something new. I always find things that I am sure will improve my experience or get me out on more days. I started a doctorate program and school, work, and few good days have made opportunities scarce. I am dying here.

I am grateful to those out there saving me from myself. Has anyone bought that slingshot yet? I am afraid to look.

I have done almost all of my buying during the months I don't get to fly much or at all.

dry spells do make you look more and buy more as well. i like alot different stuff and wear & tear set the pace .

SS rpm back to back in same session with 2013 9m RPM and SK 9m exa.

RPM little disappointed narrow wind range , my exa was easily powered in 20, rpm struggled even to stay upwind , a friend jumped on the rpm and WALKED! i jumped back on my 9 exa had no trouble , easy windward, powered airs , set really vague on the bar feel. flew the previous year and it seemed like more on the lower end. quick for sure, loops smooth and easy. and i was told the heavy bar setting won't relaunch easy. .. not sure about that did not try it set to heavy.
i am inclined to stay in the hybrid type/delta shape for tubes. the short bridle clipped c-kite is a brilliant kite for sure. i would have to try the 12m or the 14m. the range for me is issue not performance with in range.

but as much as i dig the tubes i'm currently in FS land now , just rec'vd 12m psycho 4 ! and pulse 2 14m pulled most of the better parts of the summer!

Contrast to the complex bridles on the flysurers I am having a great time on the pulley-less 10M North Rebel and 13M Ozone Edge. Both bought during the windy season. I look at kites all year long. On/off season no matter. Best deals are right now end of season.

Fly AND buy... when I had a job :o

For the last time - the bridles AREN'T complex

lives2fly - 28-9-2012 at 08:14 AM

They are complex compared to an average SLE bridle I bet :P

I have to get a flysurfer at some point but I want a big one and it would be stupid to get a big kite when i'm currently missing days on the water due to lack of a 7m... thinking a Naish Park.

then a 7m Frenzy once snowkite season gets under way....

then a 19m speed 3 sometime in the summer... :wee:

dependent 100% on the used market (what comes around) and my funds. I look around on and off to have a short list of kites I would be willing to try for the particular size I need and the rough price I should be paying. It's kinda fun hammering out the short list and keeping track of things coming and going, but on the other hand, when you are close but still can't do it, and see some awesome kites coming and going, it's can be a bit agonizing. Early summer was incredible on some of the forums.

Phree, how are you liking your 12 psycho4?
if you are lucky enough to have relatively smooth winds, should be a TON of fun on the water.

Kamikuza - 28-9-2012 at 03:48 PM

Balls - they're exactly as complex as SLE bridles... there's just more of them.

just got it, muscled up the bar pheel today, 30min in about 10 so no riding maybe atb tomorrow. very nice , unit is gonna be fun, pulse 2 has been an impulsive purchase winner for sure. p4 was hard let go by! loving it.

ya, the psycho can have really light bar pressure (assuming its the same with the other FS units too)...
when I got my first tube I was shocked at the amount of bar pressure on there (and the reviews said it was medium bar pressure)

Let us know how you like it and how you find the boosting on the water when you get some time on it..It's fun on the snow, but with all that available power on the water... wow. Good times.
