Pre-pre-pre DBBB light wind session

van - 2-10-2012 at 10:04 PM

Can't wait for DBBB to start so went down with Jeremiah to play in the light winds. It was blowing about 8-10mph all day. We went down last week and the beach is nice and hard packed!!!

Never tried my Waroos on the landboard so figure why not?? I had to add 3m extensions to my lines. I'm running about 30m lines total due to the light wind so I can get enough power for the water. It was still to light for the 17m Waroo in the 8mph wind range. I could not go upwind on the water. On the landboard, it was a truck!!! Very stable but kinda scary sometimes when the wind lulls and the kite falls out of the sky. It would then shoot straight up half way down when the wind pick up... haha.. I cut those part out of the video when I ate sand for lunch.

btw .. water was about 8 to 12 inches... lots of fun on a spleene door in swallow water .. you can go super fast. Only problem is, the fins tend to catch when the water goes out .. haha .. :singing:

edit : BTW .. the 17m Waroo is FORSALE $300 KO .. ;-);-)

Your out on that other board in bare feet on the sand and then head off into the water. I was shivering just watching you back up and take off, No Drysuit? What kind of place do you live in?:puzzled: Or are you just naturally a hot person?
I would be NOT out in the water at all here, to hard to miss all the icebergs.;-)

He lives in Galveston area so it was probably 80 or so when this was filmed. Right Van? Also you tend to start dead bird a little earlier every year don't you.

I was out last wednesday. Air temp was 90 - 95 degrees. Water temp, about 80 degrees. Our water temp doesn't go down until november during the DBBB event. And that's only about 70 degrees so you can still wear shorts or a light wetsuit. We don't really have winters here ... summer for 8 months , 2 monhths of spring and 2 months of fall.

Pyro .. Jeremiah just got his new 15m Phantom II so we had to get him out there to try it on the buggy. Wind was kinda weak at 8mph but it was enough to buggy with it. Kite did keep falling out of the sky until we tigthen internal straps. Seems like that's the low end for the 15m on a buggy.

For those of you that might be interested in coming to DBBB , this is what the beach look like. There are some areas that are wider , like the San Luis pass and East Beach. Most of it has long stretch of hard packs but they are not wide so direct onshore winds is preferred for buggying. You basically have about 20 miles or more of beach to cruise on if the winds are right.
