Well I couldn't find anything on google so I thought I'd post it here. I live out in the country a little ways and there's a road with a 55mph speed
limit near my house. There's lot's of traffic on the road and every time a vehicle of any sort goes by there's a whistle. You can hear it when they
are coming towards the house, then, as they are passing you hear regular road noise. When they pass the house the whistling begins again.
Do any of you know what this might be? It's very strange but not bothersome in any way. I really only hear it when I'm sitting in my chair, which is
right next to the front window.
Anyways, it's a long shot but there have been some weird questions that have gotten answered on this forum!hiaguy - 14-10-2012 at 05:25 PM
We call them "deer whistles". They mount in the front grille and are supposed to prevent Bambi from winding up going through your windshield.ChrisH - 14-10-2012 at 06:25 PM
No, it's not a deer whistle because it happens when any car or truck goes by. Not everbody has a deer whistle on their car. I think it must be the big
window, maybe the way the sound travels through the gas filled glass? Must be because I dont hear it when I'm standing outside.
So I think I answered my own question for the most part lolDemBones - 15-10-2012 at 07:37 PM
It's the doppler effect!!
Seriously, sound does funny things when it goes through small spaces. It may be that the room you are in has a harmonic that is unusually loud.bigkid - 15-10-2012 at 07:52 PM
its not the cars, its you. just be glad you still have teeth and your gums are young enough to still whistle, when you get older and loose your teeth
and your gums just flop when you talk you will only be able to hummmmmmm at the pertty girls instead of whistling at them.:frog:buggeyed - 15-10-2012 at 08:11 PM
I could have used a deer whistle today.I came about 4 feet from hitting one at 65 mph, on hwy 395 outside of John Day.Good thing my brakes worked.big_d - 15-10-2012 at 08:21 PM
u hit a deer you are allowed to keep it as a souvenir Feyd - 16-10-2012 at 04:16 AM
I was kinda thinking the same thing as Bigkid. :D
So it's any car? is it at any speed?
I wonder if it's not a whistle but a vibration. Could it be the sound of the reads on the pavement?joedy - 16-10-2012 at 07:24 AM
This might be a good reason to start wearing that tin foil hat again?

Lmao! I'd be pissed if all the cars said woowoot! I'd hide in the ditch with camo on at night and shoot them with rock salt out of my 12 gauge shotgun
lol. Ok, I wouldn't....but I'd really want to!AD72 - 18-10-2012 at 10:48 PM
