I seem to be managing to get out kiting once per week at the moment. It gets dark too early to go out after work now so I spend the whole week
anxiously watching the forecast hoping to get wind at the weekend.
If its 15+ i kitesurf, if its 10 - 15 I lanboard and if its marginal 7-10 then I fly my Blade III static.
I've been lucky so far but heading into winter the prospect of going 2 or even 3 weeks without kiting because the weather is too bad at weekends is
kinda daunting!
I have lots of other sports I like but i'm so obsessed with kiting at the moment nothing else seems good enough!
How do you guys (and girls) cope when you can't get out?Feyd - 18-10-2012 at 04:12 AM
I drink a lot.
Hehehe just kiddin.bigkid - 18-10-2012 at 04:58 AM
I either clean and rearrange my kite trailer or I get yelled at by my wife for talking about the same old kite stuff she has heard a million times
before and tells me to take a day off and go to sunset beach and meet up with my cronies. Whats a crony? Scudley - 18-10-2012 at 06:31 AM
edit video from the days I did kite.

I don't cope, I go completely nuts! I am a total mess when the wind is up and I can't make it to the field! When I know I am going to be able to get
out in a bit, and the wind is cranking, I am like a kid in a candy store, I just can't wait to get out and give that candy a good hell!
I do keep myself busy with baseball, other stuff I do with the kids, It helps take the edge off!
I really do sound like an addict!Mainekite - 18-10-2012 at 10:55 AM
Surf, ski, do stuff with the kids, try to get all the chore stuff done so I don't have to waste a windy day. But to be completely honest I don't need
much of an excuse to blow off work to kite out surf.Mainekite - 18-10-2012 at 11:07 AM

This whole year has been torture for me kiting wise. Lost my kiting field last summer and haven't found a replacement that allows anything but static.
When I was able to go to the lake there was no wind or when I tried to kite there wasn't enough to get me out of the water. To sum it up I've been
praying for snow all year.
To fill the time I took up mountain biking and Gaming on the pc. I did more gaming though unfortunately and it really shows. Went from 180 to 205 and
scared that my harness won't fit once the winter clothing comes out. I also spent a decent amount of mountainboarding the little hill in town during
May and June, but a hurt back slowed that down a fair bit. Bad part is the hurt back probably came from going to hard after spending the winter
sitting on the couch. Somewhere in there I also watched tons of kiting shows and stared at the weather channel. Basically life sucks without kiting.martinipro - 18-10-2012 at 05:39 PM
When I can't kite I buy more stuff!
NOT GOOD!Kober - 18-10-2012 at 06:39 PM
no kiting = beer + PKF + Netflix + FB + YT and no sleep .....DemBones - 18-10-2012 at 07:17 PM
When I am not kiting I dream of new stuff to buy.
Know next kiting time is 'round the corner!...and reminisce about a great past session.

ya, super addictive sport,
is there an easy way? It's a high to the nervous system and it's got to find a way to come down off of it.
Had to do something this summer for me, it was SUPER bad, 1 1/2 months with almost no wind (during my days off) so had to try and find a more balanced
way. Used to kite cause it gave a crazy awesome feeling (hence the addictive part), to trying to work in kiting as more of a way to get
outdoors/exercise/stress busting and some fun social time in between and still enjoy the kiting experience (but with a mental focus on the other
aspects as first priority). It's seems like a better paradigm for sure, easier to live with days without kiting, and time will tell if it's truly a
viable way to get on with life and live life with kiting, rather than living to kite.
Maybe more than what you were asking for, but hey, this really struck a chord with me cause of my experience this summer, so there you have it.Drewculous - 18-10-2012 at 09:00 PM

Normally I have had a happy balance where I do a bit of kayaking & surfing and then a bit of climbing or mountainbiking and then in winter I do
winter climbing, cross country skiing and snowboarding. If it was windy i would landboard or snow kite but if it wasn't it never really bothered me. I
just took the days when the weather gods offered them.
Since I started seriously learning to kitesurf in August I think i've got a little obsessed - starting to live up to my username I don't have to go kitesurfing just getting a kite in the air seems to be enough
My bike is hung on the wall, my climbing gear is gathering dust, my kayak hasn't been out from under its tarp in months! All I do is look at weather
forecasts, and fantasise about buying more gear so I can get out kiting in more wind ranges.
Hopefully once the snow comes I will get distracted by snowboarding a bit!rocfighter - 19-10-2012 at 05:50 AM
I know this will sound sappy but. I hang out with my wife and as many of our kids and Grand kids as I can. Times pass fast. I want to enjoy all I

Life greatest joy is hanging with your family (unless its sitting in a shoe store with three bored kids while the wife shops )kitedelight - 19-10-2012 at 09:13 PM

sounds good to me.
probably fine if it takes over the sports life, that's to be expected for a great sport. I'm sure you'll find the balance, next year you'll be a year
wiser and the fever probably won't bite as bad as first really getting into it.area429 - 20-10-2012 at 11:43 AM
Great topic! I work six days so only get sundays for kite times.
When I'm not kiting, I'm thinking about kiting, reading about kiting and praying for wind.
My home page is the wind report for my area.
