DBBB 2012

Cat - 1-11-2012 at 12:36 PM

I am planning on attending DBBB and looking for updated information. Another thread indicates that the location may change?

kitemaker4 - 1-11-2012 at 02:30 PM

Hey Cat. We will be at east beach for the event. Those who plan on attending this year and camping out at east beach might be asked to leave. We were told last year from someone that works for the city that there is a $500.00 fine for camping on the beach. I plan on staying at the state park and driving in to east beach every day.

Looking forward to seeing you and Otoe in a few weeks.

Susan : There is a rv park right on the beach near east beach called sandpiper rv resort they also have a Facebook might be better as far as being close you can check it out I think the price may not be to bad this time of year they have showers too !

jeremiah - 1-11-2012 at 04:27 PM

Address is 201 seawall Blvd galveston tx phone is 409 765 9431 the price is 45 a night hope this may help someone going to dead bird (they don't offer tent camping)

kitemaker4 - 1-11-2012 at 06:29 PM

I checked out the rv park a few weeks ago. When they do not list there prices I know that I can stay at the state park for $20.00 a night. That is less then half price. For others who want something closer this would be a great place to stay. You can buggy from your rv.

Thanks for the info.

COming to DBBB

ickyrex - 11-11-2012 at 06:09 PM

It is on...
Just finalized plans for a visit to DBBB with Mindy this year.
We will be there from Tuesday the 20th through Friday the 23rd.
We will be staying at the Galvez.
I will not be bringing our blokarts since it is only 3 days, but if there is anyone that can get me a BLokart, (or 2) to use for a few days, that would be awesome. I can bring my own sails, pod, steering, front end, downhaul, etc.
I am really stoked to be back @ DBBB for thanksgiving. I really want Mindy to experience the fried Texas style turkey that is the only fowl that I will eat. (she doesn't understand, yet.)
Really looking forward to seeing all of you again.

kitemaker4 - 12-11-2012 at 08:22 AM

Jason

I hope that I do not disappoint you but this year we are changing things up some and not going to have turkey this year. Ham in on the menu. Terry will not be there with his blokarts.

Susan (npw goddess)

van - 12-11-2012 at 08:25 AM

Not really worth going without the turkey.:o:o

So its now DPBB ? Dead Pig Buggy Bash?

kitemaker4 - 12-11-2012 at 10:00 AM

Some of the locals that have turkey fryers are not going this year so to make it easy on the rest of us we dicided to have ham instead.

Susan (npw goddess)

van - 12-11-2012 at 10:34 AM

I can help out in that area. I'm sure I can gather up atleast one turkey fryer. Let me know ..it's not the same without the turkeys.

kitemaker4 - 12-11-2012 at 01:53 PM

I will send out some e-mails to see. Not sure if there is enough time to buy turkeys between 12 to 14 lbs. to fry. You need the propane burner with a pot that is just to cook turkeys in. We need at least 3 to 4 turkeys to cook also and they need to be thawed out to cook. We also need someone that knows how to cook them.

Susan (npw goddess)

bigkid - 12-11-2012 at 04:17 PM

I'm with Van, not the same with out the DEEP FRIED TURKEY. I have to admit I have been working on coming to DBBB for the last 2 years and with the hope 2013 will be the one. But if you all serve Ham, I'll have to stay home. The DEEP FRIED TURKEY is the 1st reason I would show up, the people and the buggying is 2nd. Nothing better than DEEP FRIED TURKEY. I hope I can wait till thanksgiving for mine, may have to cook one up to tide me over.

I hope all my efforts to show up next year is rewarded with DEEP FRIED TURKEY and not a ham.:piggy: Will I need to bring my own if I come? I can do that, I have 3 fryers and lots of propane. I can even bring the birds, and all the spices to make it good to eat.

van - 12-11-2012 at 06:25 PM

I found a solution. I found a place that will take care of the cooking for a reasonable price.. How many people will be there?? 3 turkeys should be enough??

How about you let VTT Buggies sponsor the turkeys? :singing:

I will also bring some of that Vietnamese grilled pork on a stick. Also, some of the fried spring rolls. If you can get everyone to take care of the rest, I can take care of the turkeys.

jeremiah - 12-11-2012 at 08:12 PM

Is there going to be anyone out on the beach playing tomorrow if so where

kitemaker4 - 12-11-2012 at 10:41 PM

That would be great Van. We will take you up on that offer. Not sure how big the birds are but I counted 45 people registered for dead bird and probably more will register before the event so I am thinking we would need 4 birds. With everyone bringing a side dish to add to the meal we should have everything else covered.

The birds are around 14 lbs. I will confirm with them today to have 4 birds ready for us by 11am. I will pick them up and drive down by noon. They have different flavors and ways of cooking so I am gonna get some fried ones and maybe on grilled one. They also have baked version but I think the fried or grilled is good.

bigkid - 13-11-2012 at 09:23 AM

you guys are killing me, going to have to cook one up before the 22nd. Cajun and Jamaican spices with a bit of pineapple juice, and fresh turkeys are so dang expensive. Grrrrrrrrrrr Fried Turkey, Fride Turky, friekdsj trudky, I goda go, Im not going to make it to the 22nd

kitemaker4 - 14-11-2012 at 07:37 AM

With dead bird a week away it is time to think about what you are bringing to add to the thanksgiving meal. If you have not registered please do if you plan on eating with us.

Thanks

pyro22487 - 14-11-2012 at 07:57 AM

Registered late last night.

jeremiah - 14-11-2012 at 11:52 AM

Susan: Are any of you out on the beach bugging any this week I know the wind has been on the low side and direction all over the place but I have been off all week with no talk of anyone out there so just asking if and when you all may be out on the beach thanks

treblehook - 14-11-2012 at 12:29 PM

Who will be @ East beach this Saturday?

van - 14-11-2012 at 01:22 PM

Matt (LookingUp) said he will be in Galveston by saturday. I am planning to be out there. Are we having the pre-event at East Beach also? or should we have it at SLP?

treblehook - 14-11-2012 at 02:40 PM

SLP is flat, wide open, and packed down good. in other words perfect.......but winds are predicted to be NE 10 to 15 for Saturday (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?map.x=236&map.y...)
which makes east beach the better choice IMO.
winds are not predicted to change to the SE until Sunday Night.
thing could change in the next 60 hrs . just checking to see the where & whens .......Love riding the wind....

pyro22487 - 14-11-2012 at 06:04 PM

Saturday or Sunday for me too.

pyro22487 - 14-11-2012 at 06:04 PM

double posted.

kitemaker4 - 14-11-2012 at 08:10 PM

If the winds are out of the se then it would be onshore out at slp. Any other direction east beach is where you need to be.

treblehook - 15-11-2012 at 09:09 PM

forgot to mention :
was down @ East Beach 11-3-2012
and they had put up the "Piping Plovers Sign"
hope this will not affect the bugging area..

kitemaker4 - 15-11-2012 at 11:46 PM

Wow that is not a good sign. Thanks for the heads up Herb.

Susan (npw goddess)

pyro22487 - 16-11-2012 at 03:27 AM

Im sorry but death to plovers. Seriously wow that first little symbol might be a problem. although they don't seem to fly away when I was on Padre. Now the seagulls do fly away from the kite.

pyro22487 - 16-11-2012 at 04:05 AM

Hey just noticed 2 bolts hold this sign on to its pole. They sign may vanish in time for the event then reappear as the event finishes.

pyro22487 - 16-11-2012 at 06:53 AM

I just realized that sign also says no dogs. So are we going to move the event next year to a place with less restrictions. I mean come on no camping no dogs and I bet the beach patrol runs us off next year.

P.S.
Well at least this sign is legitimate. I see a plover in the background.

kite killer - 16-11-2012 at 09:58 AM

Hope it does not turn out like here in Cali! Only the city beach is allowed, not the state beaches, unless you are hidden (keep kite low), or haul ass and quickly at pack up your kite and leave. good luck with the turf.

treblehook - 17-11-2012 at 05:24 AM

East Beach bound...........

van - 17-11-2012 at 07:57 PM

I was a little disappointed that no one showed up to the pre-event. We only had the local crew (jeremiah, treblehook, a new guy - didn't get his name , and myself). Wind was also lacking today. Had 50m lines on my 15m phantom and it was still falling out of the sky.

The only fun part was when Herb (treblehook) hooked up his parasail to his truck and took us for a ride. That was cool considering I have a fear of heights ...haha.

Btw.. we didn't see any plovers until we were about to left and ONE showed up right in the middle of our camp. I didn't have the deep fryer with me so that bird got to live one more day.

treblehook - 17-11-2012 at 08:47 PM

Jeremiah and I had fun so thanks alot for bringing the parasail Herb!!

pyro22487 - 18-11-2012 at 05:22 AM

Oh man looks like fun. Well Im on my way now.

jeremiah - 18-11-2012 at 07:38 AM

windthing2 - 19-11-2012 at 05:29 PM
