Hello all! My name is Jeff and I'm a new member to the site and just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to everyone here. :)

To tell a bit about my experience... I ended up moving to Long Island, NY a few years ago and decided to try and get more into kiting since I was close to beaches for the first time in my life. I've always been into flying hobbies, but have been wanting to get more into wind sports and figured this would be a good opportunity to do so. To my surprise, I quickly found that Long Island isn't the "hot spot" of kiting that I had hoped. I found only a couple of guys that flew locally and began flying freestyle kites at that time (Prism Hypnotist and Zephyr). Shortly after, I thought I'd delve into the power aspect of kiting and began my journey with a Prism Snapshot 1.9. Great kite that I have alot of fun with on those gusty days. For a kite that size, it can definitely develop some pull.

I'm now interested in learning and getting involved with kite buggys, kite boarding, etc. Do they do any of that here on Long Island? If so, I'd love to meet up with some local guys that are willing to help out a newbie to the sport. After doing my research and reaching out for advice from some experienced kiters on this forum, I've decided that I'm going to be getting a Tensor 5.0 so that I can gain experience with quad-lines and have something to fly on those not-so-windy days, but figured that it would also be a good intro kite for any of the traction sport applications as well, when that time comes.

I hope that in time I get to become acquainted with many of you on the forum and hopefully meet those that may reside locally. I'm excited about the idea of what power kiting has to offer and I hope that I may find the right information and people to learn from through this site. Thanks so much and I hope to chat with you all soon! :)

Welcom Jeff! Hopefully you can meet up with the Cheeze or others in that area! They will have enough time now to get you warmed up for the Spring WBB!

Hey Cheeze and Rich! Nice to "meet" you both. :)

I'm located in East Northport, NY. That's right in the middle, not too far from the north shore. Would love to have a chance to meet up with you guys at Long Beach sometime... if Long Beach still exists since Sandy destroyed so much here. Are these sports that can be enjoyed year-round? I know that winter is coming quick and I see snowboarders enjoying the kites during the winter months from the videos I've been watching on YouTube. Looks very cool, but I'd have to learn to snowboard first. I'm definitely looking at even just getting out this winter and scudding around on the snowpack when the winds allow. Maybe we can do some kite sledding!

Thanks for the replies guys. Let me know when ya'll meet up. :)

Yeah what they all said. But I think they forgot to mention the fact that you may need to join a support group. As I see you already have the addiction going. So hook up with some of the guys in your area and have a blast. Look forward to meeting you some time.

Great hearing from all you guys!

Abkayak... I know what you mean about the bad timing on my part. I just figured that I'd connect with those that I could and hopefully prepare for next season a bit in the meantime. I'm sure that Long Beach is devastated, but I'm sure you're very appreciated for opening your home to those that are in need. I unfortunately just lost power again last night and now may be out for a week or more, they're saying. What a mess this is. But I just think of all those that in MUCH worse situations than I and that's what keeps me sane. I'll definitely get in touch with you because you're right... can't keep a kiter down. :)

Rocfighter... yeah, I can see myself getting addicted pretty quick. I always think of forums as support groups since we're usually all a bunch of addicts. Haha! Look forward to meeting you too at a local event or sometime when I'm up in your neck of the woods.

Jeff :)
