I don't understand why it has to be one or the other and not both. There are so many different types of figure skating routines in the winter that are all so similar and boring (short program, long program, dance program, technical program, etc. etc.) you'd think there is room for 2 windsports in the summer.

Cos there's like 200 different sailing events  Olympics - who cares at all.

Comparing the different skating programs and kitesurfing/windsuring is a bit apples and oranges.

I do expect supporting both would have been a bit of a logistical nightmare depending on the facilities available at the next Olympic site.

Interesting reading on both 3rd party and ISAF sites:
This is a priceless quote:
"Israel's sailing chief Yehuda Maayan later revealed that, in voting for kiteboarding, delegates had probably been confused or did not understand the motion because of ambiguous language translations. "

So if you don't understand something.... don't ask for clarification, just sneak out the travel edition of the Magic 8 Ball and throw down your vote.

Kind of glad there were no missile codes involved. :o

This is a much more telling quote though:
"We have a very strong youth pathway and some 10,000 windsurfing members of the RYA (Royal Yachting Association), so on their behalf we are delighted with the decision. "

Basically it sounded like ISAF was getting hammered by all the windsurfing clubs and federations worldwide since their original decision in May.... quite possibly with more fervor than they anticipated and this was a way for them to recant without losing too much face.

ATB,
Sam

Bummer. But if the Olympics is the only thing windsurfing has above us, then so be it. I mean really, we already must be out ranking them in yearly sales and overall rider numbers?? Soon they will go the way of rollerblading.

My 1st thought was why does it have to be one or the other back when this came out ?

They managed to bring snowboarding in without kicking skiers out ? I don't see why kite and sail can't get along on the same courses / locations?

BUMMED ! :megan:
