DemBones - 20-11-2012 at 11:25 PM

Elf http://www.kite-site.ru/indexeng.html
Russian. Apparently these kites win all the snow kite races in Eastern Europe.

Kamikuza - 21-11-2012 at 12:25 AM

ASV makes wicked cool brake levers.

Feyd - 22-11-2012 at 08:28 AM

Elfs are winning the races here as well.

I'm not sure Paraski Flex counts as a kite. Maybe I'm wrong?

They are pretty amazing tho.

erratic winds - 22-11-2012 at 08:38 AM

Feyd- why not? I always thought a kite was just a sail that was far away from you.....

hvkmike - 22-11-2012 at 01:30 PM

Yes Paraski it is a kite, although not the traditional control system. They do use longer lines in lighter winds, but fly almost off the bridle in higher winds.A unique design that does work well.Designed for snow but IMO would work fine on a landboard.Have seen videos of them surfing but lets face it you can kitesurf with almost any kite, but that doesn't mean it's any good at it.I can't see the control system working well with a buggy either.
As for the ELF... mean machine but pricey.

Kober - 23-11-2012 at 01:11 AM

I am sure Paraski qualifies in kite category ......

.. Elf definitely have spot in that list ..... any other companies you did not see on US market ????

Kober - 27-11-2012 at 10:47 PM

2013 Aeros Gyro

Look at that scenery ......

razeontherock - 2-12-2012 at 01:43 AM

Can't get the Concept air page to translate into English, but it looks like they make Cabrinha? The most local kite shop here carries them - pricey!

Feyd - 2-12-2012 at 06:25 AM

Fair enough on the paraski bit. From here on out Paraski Flex is a kite. A PKF DECREE.

You gotta admire the abilty to just lay the things down when the wind gets nasty. Makes me jealous some days when it's nasty.

Yeah, ELFs are pricey but for the money you get a lot of performance. Flysurfers are pricey, everything is pricey! But fortunately you usually get what you pay for in the kite world I think.

Are we just counting kite companies that are still in business or can we count some that have faded away? Viokite is one that is worth mentioning I think. I have a Protean 2 here that has a messed up bridle system that I need to figure out to get it to work. It's a 9m BUT ZIPS DOWN TO A 7M. Depowerable and with one of the most complex line systems I've ever seen.

Kober - 2-12-2012 at 08:59 AM

razeontherock .... Concept air only sell Cabrinahs ...

Feyd .... any links or photos for Protean ???

canuck - 2-12-2012 at 10:53 AM

Here is a link to the VioKite website product page. It is in German and does not show the Protean 2.

There is also a YouTube video of a 17m VioKite that might be a Proteus

flyjump - 2-12-2012 at 11:03 AM

A few years ago windwing kites caught my attention. They created the batwing kite that had the middle section of the kite cut out of it which seemed like a bad idea. After watching some videos of them they looked like they performed well

Feyd - 2-12-2012 at 11:57 AM

Thanks Canuck.

I forgot about Windwing A., they still around?

flyjump - 2-12-2012 at 12:14 PM

I'm not sure if they are still around or not. However I have seen a few of their kites pop up on fleabay and other kite sites where people are getting rid of old gear. I can't remember what their website was, but I think they were based out of the North West somewhere?

Bladerunner - 2-12-2012 at 01:00 PM

Skycountry make some great kites. www.skycountry.ca

I am fond of the AlaSCa . It fits the snowkite label but like all snowkites it works great with buggy and board. They have more aggressive models and even a closed cell .

The Reflex is a popular FB here. I think that SkyCountry allows you to choose your colours if you special order. Something I like !

Like most quality foil kite companies SkyCountry is a paragliding company 1st.

I know Wind Wing closed once and then took a second stab at the market. Not sure but I think they are out now? They were an early player with some good ideas in LEI.

Lets not forget : Mr. Kitesurfer !
On second thought Lets FORGET Mr. Kitesurfer !

Kober - 2-12-2012 at 06:00 PM

Windwing is in above list .... #14 ..... pictures of batwing on that site too ....

How you like those ???

flyjump - 2-12-2012 at 06:30 PM

I wanted a windwing for a long time when I first got interested in kiting. I looked forever to find one used but they were few and far between. I've seen more 6m phantoms on the market than the batwing

Kober - 3-12-2012 at 09:31 PM

new companies added .....

Who answer 15 ??? Really ???

DemBones - 3-12-2012 at 09:42 PM

Not me, but...

I thought the poll was how many you don't know, so I probably would have.

B-Roc - 4-12-2012 at 05:02 AM

Well if we are including kite companies that are no more than what about Pegas Kites? I used to want those in my Blade III days. They made a depower converter kit for Blades and some nice kites on their own (Chimera red and Gryphon, blue).

mdpminc - 4-12-2012 at 12:44 PM

Lets not forget J-N (Jochum-Nestler)
German-Italian foils and tubes

Primadonna

Wildthing

Randas

Luis

B-Roc - 4-12-2012 at 02:30 PM

J-N seem cool. I was looking at some of their kites around the time I bought my Yetis. Just no distributorship over here in the States :(

Scudley - 4-12-2012 at 03:12 PM

Correction: Sky Country is not a Canadian company. They are located in Kharkov Ukraine, once a center of the Soviet aerospace industry. Had the Soviet Union not collapsed these guys would have been designing MIGs not paragliders and kites. Paragliders and kites are available through the North American distributor Sky Country Canada (www.skycountry.ca). The manufacturers web site is www.sky-country.com.
They have four models of kite: Reflex (fb); Alsaca (dP); Nasca II and Madagascar II both closed cell de-power.

What ever happened with AirEvo ?

I thought that company was super progressive when they 1st showed up. They had that interesting trailing edge and I think some creative use of mylar or something?

They had some slick videos like this one .

and this

and this

B-Roc - 6-12-2012 at 06:37 PM

Ditto BladeRunner on AirEvo. Some super great skiing and decent landboarding vids with lots of buzz when they first came out then they just died. Kober's picture of the kite looks strikinlgy similar to current HQ graphic layouts.

Kober - 21-12-2012 at 10:13 PM

Bladerunner - 3-1-2013 at 06:14 PM

Opale is a very progressive company. Really thinking outside the box.

Their approach to wingtip drag is unique. If I am correct they are doing very well in the race scene ? NOT cheap !!! $$$
