got a few commitments so far ..
1) myself

3) Mark ( Nfish )

Herb ?? Steve?? Dylan?? Anyone else in the area that wants to meet up. We are trying to get a group together for the Houston area so we can meet on a regular basis if possible.

The event was great even with the low winds. The strange thing was that the wind down on the ground was about 3mph but the wind about 10 meters up was around 12mph. I had my 19m venom with 5 meter extensions. It was a little more than I needed on the buggy. Was over powered the whole time .. haha .. Had the kite fully depower the whole 20 miles trip from the state park to SLP and back. The venom didn't turn out to be a fast kite at all. Only manage to get up to 26mph max before the buggy started to slide sideways.

Would messing around with the straps on the 19m venom help it to fly more toward the edge of the window?? Or is there a mod to speed up the kite. I like the speed on my phantom but was not impressed with the venom's speed.

It was great to have Herb, Jeremiah, Mark and myself all racing down the beach , all on buggies with PL Arcs. Thanks everyone for coming out. I will try to get another one going soon so we can all meet up again. Dylan, I didn't think you could make it since you usually work on weekends, otherwise I would had called you personally.

Had a great day ridin the winds with friends.
Early start @ 8am to take advantage of low tide.
Sunny with a high of 80 f
Ended the day 3.5 miles short of buggy day camp due to darkness,
Mark and I got rescued by Jeremiah in the truck.
Had a personal best endurance record @ 72.5 miles.with a top speed 26.8 mph.
Was good to meet another SE Texas kite buggier (Mark). Hung in there well on the long run to the pass. Cool to see 4 arcs bugging down the beach. Would be nice to get Dylan and Steve Mc down there next time and have 6 arcs a bugging...Any way Great day on the SE Texas Gulf Coast.
next goal : a 100 mile day:o

Yeah, big thanks to all the of you not leaving me behind in the dark, lol. Special thanks to Herb that stayed with me the whole time escorting me back. You guys are awesome!

Well, I'm on a 2 week trip again; hope to see you guys soon.

van - 4-12-2012 at 04:48 PM

We would never leave you behind .. haha. I was actually trying to get back as fast as I can before the sun sets. This way, atleast one of us made it back in time so we can come back with the truck to get the rest of the team back to base. I was a little worry myself when I noticed we were still about 3 miles from camp when the sun went out of sight. Good thing Jeremiah also made it back in time with me so he threw his stuff in the truck and took off. I flagged down a local beach patrol to drive down the beach just in case since we weren't allow to actually drive down the beach ourselves.

Next time, we will need to limit the distance once we get close to sunset. I'm gonna setup some blinking LED and headlights just incase we do get caught in the dark again.

jeremiah - 4-12-2012 at 08:18 PM

That's what we need is lights set up on the bugs cause the winds came up after sunset I wanted to ride some more I wasn't done yet :)
