What do I want for Christmas?... GPS?

soliver - 5-12-2012 at 05:36 PM

So wifey asked what to get me for Christmas and I'm thinking of telling her to get me a Garmin etrex,... It seems like a good compact GPS for tracking and it looks rugged and tough and fits into the Christmas budget.

So tell me buggy folks, will this GPS do all the stuff we buggy folks like a GPS to do?

Speeds, etc.... I'm mostly interested in finding what speed I'm moving, but I'm curious, how much distance will you need to travel for it to give you a speed reading?

I mostly ride at a local park and am pretty sure I'm not moving more than a few hundred feet in any given direction, so I'm wondering if its worth it?

You can get a speed reading within a few steps. I have the foretrex model.

Go with the new ETrex 10, 20, 30.

The old versions (Venture, Legend, etc) will cost just as much (if not more) and give you little.

I bought my Etrex 20 at an REI returns sale for $59. You cannot beat that!

I'm hoping for the Garmin Fenix, or coal.:D

I have the etrex 10. Gives you any kind of numbers you want, and the display can be customised to show your preference. I use it on my bicycle as well.

It will realise you are moving if you take a couple of steps. Over a few hundred feet it will be plenty accurate.

Yeah I think that's what I want too,... What looked most appealing on Amazon, at least.

I have a surplus eTrex Legend that I never used. Bought it at Wal Mart to get Topo Canada to use with my eTrex Vista HCx.

Send me a U2U if you are interested.
