Burning Man Kite Boarding

frangram - 30-8-2006 at 05:35 PM

Who is the person kite boarding at Burning Man who made the New York Times web site? I know its not Dean or Corey.

Hit the Burning Man link and the picture is
from the second day of the event. The Times has a photographer
posting pictures each day of Burning Man.

Hey Fran,

i would bet it is Tim on the board and Chris Shultz's off camera flying Martin's white man...if i had to guess.

come over to Niagara...you need to show the puppies how the gorge competition is done.

Howdy All,
Just got in last night from another fab-u-lous burn.

The Big Martin Lester Flying Man was made, and is being flown in the photo, by Chris "Topher" Schultz from DOTA Camp (Dept. Of Tethered Aviation) at Burning Man.

The kite/groundboarder in the other photo could be Tim, it's tough to tell.
However I note that he is well-padded with safety gear from head-to-toe, and is playing in a wide-open space, away from other festival participants.
Way to show the responsible kite way!

Great trip, but my van had an internal hemorage last night about 100 miles north of home. Nothing a $640 tow charge couldn't remedy.
Now we're home and facing the truth of a very expensive vacation.

Safen Up! Buggy On!

Good to hear about b-man for you. Sorry to hear about your ride. I, too, have had an expensive tow before ($450 out to Cima Rd at the 15). Then another tow to long beach.

Hope to see you at Elmers, but it's understandable if we don't. Money only grows on other people's trees. I'll get drunk and act philosphical in your honor.

I have kids again, after a 2 month hiatis. Amazing how they don't grow! Nothing a stupid joke can't cure.

Cheers
Steve

That was me.

That photo wasn't the greatest, I was getting a lot more speed during the dust storms. :) I was riding a 9m OR One and a ground industries landboard. The motorcycle jacket was great - it covered all the road rash from the previous day. Turns out there was a big gap between my harness and chest protector. :)

Hope you guys had as much fun as I did. I've been riding on the water for years, but this year's Burn was my first time on a landboard. Thus all the protective gear. :) Still nursing some roadrash and a sprained ankle, but I think the ankle was from an art car skitching incident...

Here's a shot with some speed, but obviously not NYTimes worthy.

Awsome! Chris Shultz did a great gifting exercise by giving lots and lots of buggy rides.

Overall not much wind this year, once again keeping our kite fly to the very lightest of kites.

Did get to fly kites in fire though, always a fun thing to do, and once again, Chris led that parade, flying his 'man' kite every chance he got.

Lots of aoxomoxoa this year all around, i must say, and much higher vis of the Kiteflyers camp.

Thanks to Biff for the Happy Birthday toast! Sorry about you getting towed away once more.....
