Beamer 2M ( 135lbs )

SFKITER - 5-2-2013 at 07:54 PM

I really love to fly my 2M Beamer the bigger ones im not quite as comfortable with in the bigger winds. I wasnt even trying to get any air time but 15mph winds were lifting me up and throwing me around. Quite honestly I might start bringing a helmet with me even though it was fun I wasnt trying to get any lift I was just practicing flying in and out of the power zone calmly and smoothly. I was stupid for one second and had to scratch my nose and let go of the quad handle and the kite just went nuts and drug me around. I would of #@%$#! myself with a Tensor 5M

Just remember - if you move the kite fast enough in enough wind or you get a big gust it will pick you up but as soon as it slows down or the gust goes by, it will drop you very fast as it's not a big enough kite to supply any sort of 'float'. Never underestimate the damage a small kite can do to you. Having said that, go have a blast!!!

Now you see how we go so fast w/ a lil' kite. If you work it ,it's a powerhouse. You just gotta have really FAST reflexes.

SFKITER - 5-2-2013 at 08:50 PM

hahaha thanks guys. It was definetly awesome not gonna lie. but keep that in retrospect if your ever selling a kite to someone! Im pure muscle and that thing was just owning my life. I got a lot of practice flying in and out of the power zone though and working on keep the kite afloat nice and smoothly. Im not sure I wanna fly a bigger kite anymore! Atleast not in big winds

You just learned the biggest lesson in Power Kiting- respect for Mother Nature. Yeah, she gave you a little spankin but she is just keeping you in line and letting you know she calls the shots.

Keep hammering that 2m and once you get confidence back pull out the 3m. Fly that till your bored and move up the ladder in sizes.

We ALL have had our confidence shaken by an unexpected "flight" or any type of operator era move. Just have to get back on that Horse and ride again.

Welcome to your 1st spanking. We all get spanked every now and then. It is the fact it can happen that really gets the adreneline pumping. Part of the draw for me.

Safety gear is one major step in protecting yourself.

I choose to wear my helmet every time I fly any power kite. That way I don't have to decide + it has become like the seat belt in my car. I feel funny without it on now. I add knee butt and elbow pads as I am pushing it. Having the safety gear on allows me to allow myself to push it.

A whole lot of this sport is about getting fly time in. Setting memory reflexes so that you get out of trouble without even thinking.

Use a set of kite killers so you don't mind letting go. It sounds like doing so might have saved you some hurt.

You sure you aren't underestimating the wind speed?

15mph on a 2 meter Beamer- even trying/working it- should not have enough power to lift you.....even at your weight. Anyone with me..?

Gusty winds at the end of the lines is my guess.

Bladerunner - 7-2-2013 at 06:25 AM

Is it possible you don't have your KK set up right ?

In 15mph winds going to killers should kill all power . I think I am missing something ?

Time to pick up a 13m venom, it will change your life

I'm thinking the same thing. I wouldn't even have a 2m out for static fly in 15mph winds. Neither would my similar weight (to SFKiter) sons.

'Im pure muscle'.....135lbs....you must be really small, 4% body fat at 9 and 1/2 stone is nothing to brag about...you need to put some weight on! and especially if you're geting lifted by a 2m kite in 15kph winds!

Purely Luck - 23-8-2013 at 06:31 AM

"135lbs

4% Body Fat"

Keep in mind that a kite will fling around 135 pounds of muscle just as easy as 135 pounds of flab. The flab may actually help you by adding some air resistance while you are getting flung. :P

This boy needs to eat a cheeseburger. Either way though, I think the wind was blowing harder than you realize. I have a Tensor 5.0m and it takes at least 15mph for it to ever pick my butt up off the ground, and that is only if I really send it. From what I hear, the Beamer line is closest to the Tensor in lift and power. It does sound like you need a bit more @$$ in your britches though.

Wow I actually have someone beat in the weight dept....
147.8

My wife crossfits....I would workout except for all that lifting up weight sh*t...

I'm going to say no body fat....

Yes in certain winds you can generate enough lift to get a 200 lb person off the ground with a little kite....

You said it yourself....WEAR A HELMET!

I think I got you beat at 300lbs, all thanks to MacDonalds cheese burgers. The 2M kite I flew was like a toy kite in the wind. The 4m kite I have was an eye opener as it lifted me 1ft up and 3ft away. I figured I could handle it. Was I wrong. Mother nature gave me a lesson I wont forget.
