That's funny. Are you raising them for meat, eggs, or pets? I ordered 25 chickens a few years ago. They arrive from USPS within 72 hours of being hatched. I raised them, butchered them, and ate them. They were great. I then bought a few for egg laying. Since my backyard was pretty small, I sold them when my daughter started walking. I didn't want her playing in chicken poo. I plan to get some more in my next house when I get a bigger yard.

All of this was done in Houston, where city ordinances and HOA rules did not allow me to have chickens, but none of the neighbors ever complained.

I guess the other question is why do you have a miniature buggy?

dirtslide - 23-2-2013 at 09:35 AM

thats a full size buggy ...... for them. We have a coup and a run in our massive back yard .We will be keeping them as laying hens unless they turn out to be roosters ,here we can have hens but no roosters.

So, is your chicken run big enough for them to safely fly power kites and ride buggies? I can't understand how they would hold kite handles. :dunno:

I'm sure there is a harness adapter for a bar that works with there beaks.:Ange09:
My mom has well over a hundred laying hens on a semi free range farm (there in a closed area about 1/2 acre but roam free in that space) but she gave up teaching them to fly kites. There not to smart you know.:dunno: She also has roosters and hatches her own eggs. (ok there not HER eggs) I felt I had to explain that for some folks with wonderfully sarcastic wits!! Nothing beats a fresh egg omelet.

I'm in the middle of building a chicken tractor right now, haven't had time to finish it. I plan to have 5 or 6 laying hens and no roosters. I could have a rooster but I have decided not to for now. I have 5 acres of land and 4 acre of it are pasture that is full of bugs so they'll eat good. I also plan to start a black soldier fly colony for them. Can't wait to have my own eggs!
