I'm out. You Kiddies have fun!

Proletariat - 5-3-2013 at 09:12 AM

I'm not going to make NABX after all this time around. There are just too many variables and if I'm going to take a significant amount of time off from a brand new job, I need to be able to plan ahead a little.

I still haven't heard anything from Elaine after emailing her last week.

I know it *might* not be strictly enforced, but the no filming clause is a deal breaker for me.

I'm sure the lovely state of California (and Nevada) will be okay without the extra money my tourism would have brought.

I hope you folks have one hell of a time! Maybe next year.

It looks like I can go to JIBE instead, if I can figure out gear transport. I look forward to seeing videos of NABX -- oh wait. I look forward to seeing hand drawn sketches of NABX. :)

No idea what you are talking about. Could you tell us what you mean by hand drawn pictures?

Do hope to see you at JIBE.

In some communication about the rules, there was a rule about no filming. Not sure what that's about. We video and take pictures every time out there.

they probably don't want you driving a truck out on the lake bed to follow along and film the kiters. that's my guess in not being able to film. I'm sure you can still wear a gopro

yes and Elaine with BLM said no filming for commercial purposes. personal cameras are obviously fine.

gbrown - 5-3-2013 at 10:58 AM

Not that I am an expert on The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) but the filming statement attributed to Elaine in Brian's post last week should refer to commercial organized filming.

I do not believe they have the authority to limit filming for personal use which courts have upheld in cases involving social media is viewed as free speech.

there is nothing in the rules with my permit that says anything about picture taking or filming.

Just my opinion

yes she clarified that in a phone conversation I had with her. does that mean that those of us with sponsors cant list them on our videos? IDK but I think it is obvious what they would have a problem with. Kieron may just have to change the current 2013 NABX video to 2014 :)

van - 5-3-2013 at 11:36 AM

If you can't make it to NABX, there's still WWBB , JIBE ,and best and last , DBBB .. :)

MDK - 5-3-2013 at 12:02 PM

Van, there is no NABX until 2014 ;-)

bigkid - 5-3-2013 at 12:39 PM

Just got off the phone with the BLM and the understanding is you are not to film with out a permit, if you are filming for profit. If you are doing it to make money, then you need a commercial permit. If you are filming for your own use or to share with others,(home movie type of setting), than thats OK.

And as for guests and their cars, as long as you are not having "20 guests with cars, it is OK". Just let the ranger know they are your guest. "We just don't want to see 50 cars out on the lake bed taking blokart lessons". Rather simple, wouldn't you say?

Proletariat - 5-3-2013 at 12:39 PM

Well, "no filming" to me means "don't film." Regardless, I probably would set up a tripod to get decent shots and that COULD cause problems if anybody has already pissed off the ranger. I don't want to be subject to arbitrary rules define by someone else' behavior. I prefer to be subject to clearly identified rules based on my own behavior. Actually, scratch that... I prefer to be subject to no rules aside from "do no harm."

Regardless, that particular issue is just one of the myriad attributes that make me view NABX with a not-insignificant amount of trepidation. I haven't been before, so my only source of information is from this site and this alleged (and unresponsive) "Elaine" person. (Totally joking, btw. Elaine sounds nice...I'm sure she's just busy.). The details surrouding the non-event that I have been able to dig up this far are far from confidence-inspiring and I just can't wager my first solo vacation in 7 years on mediocre data.

I'm not angry or anything, I just wanted to let my friends know that I can't make it and why. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

She is a busy person, and this week she is out of the Needles office in Sacramento for an all week meeting. She will be back in the office on Monday. You can always talk to her boss, he is a nice guy also.

Wolfpaklv - 5-3-2013 at 12:44 PM

She was only talking about commercial use as some have already stated. Meaning anything that would wind up on TV or sold as a dvd. Videos, even for sponsored riders, made for use on you tube or other web based videos are acceptable.

Proletariat - 5-3-2013 at 02:29 PM

So is video okay for sponsored, corporate events that are taking place on BLM grounds without a permit?

Proletariat - 5-3-2013 at 02:29 PM

Before you all go ape#@%$#!, I was joking.

I am very sad that Dave won't make it out with us.

I am now working to convince him that although he will not be there, his kites should.

Should I tell 'em that he will also miss the "Heart Attack Grill" in Vegas? I shall be getting the "Triple Bypass".

Haha, that sounds great :D

Joey- the fact that you're excited about the heart attack grill just means you've not found out about CRAVE Real Food in Highlands Ranch....
