Talking to your equipment ??

elfasa - 8-3-2013 at 04:45 PM

Perhaps I'm just going to embarrass myself by admitting to this, but I constantly talk to my equipment (mainly the kites, sometimes my buggy too).

I try to be nice to them, but a lot of our dialogue is me moaning, and swearing at the kites when they don't behave themselves. But I do also thank and congratulate them when they (I) do something I'm particularly happy with, as well as encouraging them to be nice etc etc.

I do have to admit, it's a rather one sided conversation, they're not very chatty.. But I natter on at them nonetheless.

Anyone else, or is it just me ?? :P

You have no idea how good it is to hear it's not just me:lol: I try to be real quiet about it. But some times I see others looking at me after I have given a kite a pep talk.:embarrased: Not always a nice on either!

djinnzfree - 8-3-2013 at 05:03 PM

You're not alone!

Txshooter38 - 8-3-2013 at 06:29 PM

Lol...Yep...talking to the kites...it happens! Of course I talk to the tv and other objects as well. My wife said she will only get worried if I start to respond to myself.

I talk to my gear constantly. I refer to my 15m Ph2 as "Darlin".

3shot - 8-3-2013 at 07:54 PM

You think that's bad?
I have to run back into the spare bedroom a few times each night to touch and feel em', and make sure they are ok. Maybe it's just the "new to kiting" thing? I spend hours each night youtubing and researching.
It's rather embarrassing.
I have issues....
Does Ozone make ripstop comforter sets with matching curtains???????

snowspider - 8-3-2013 at 08:29 PM

My conversations are somewhat one sided and short , "come on , come on" , "damn it" , "oh crap ,what are you doing"

Not that I am aware of, but one of the forum members regularly recycles older power kites into single line kites. I am sure a comforter and curtain set would be well within his skills.

I've wanted to do this for quite some time, except make a sleeping bag. All I would need is an old arc (Fairly unused but with to much damage to repair. and some stuffing. I'd first open the TE and remove all the profiles. Then I would sew the top and bottow skins together where the profiles were. Next I would fill her with stuffing through the TE and sew the TE shut again. Fold the kite in half and sew the TE and LE to themselves and you have a sleeping bag, a huge sleeping bag. You could even get creative and leave on of the profiles in and have a built in pillow! Anyone have a severly damaged but crispy arc they would part with?????

hahaha, love the sleeping bag idea of an old ARC

Done that many times ...... I talk to my car on every road trip too .... lol

bigkid - 9-3-2013 at 02:10 PM

I stopped talking to the stuff after my accident, now I just box it up and quietly send it off to the new owner. Like a funeral service that pays me.
The kite that tried to kill me was put in solitary confinement, without any possibility of release. It will be quietly cremated after death, or possibly before death.

elfasa - 9-3-2013 at 02:33 PM

Haha, well at least i'm not the only one that talks to my stuff. Not that it makes it better for any of us :P

Jeff, serious question: have you actually kept the kite that was involved in your injury ??

Tim

doneski - 9-3-2013 at 02:52 PM

I make airplane noises when I ski.

mougl - 9-3-2013 at 03:08 PM

I talk to my equipment regularly. Lately I have been apologizing for lack of use but I promised my kites some fun tomorrow. Lately all they say back is "humph!" I don't think they believe me anymore...

Yes, it's put away so it will never do to another what it did to me. Just like I said earlier, it will never see the light of day.

I tried this line of thinking with my kids as they grew up, but the frying pan my wife cooked with carried a loud thud and said very little when it came in contact with the back of my head.
(kind of scary now that I think about it, haven't seen the frying pan in a while.)

Ha! Everything is better with aeroplane noises :)

Jeff:
Ah okay. I wouldn't want to keep it if I was in your situation! If it was me I'd wanna get rid of it. Although if I did i would cut off an inch or two squared, frame it and keep it somewhere inconspicuous. Remind me of the value and fragility of life, or something else deep and moody, lol.
Lets hope I'm never put in that situation, ehh..

Comment from today as I lean back on the board, and dropped the 24M Phantom (50M lines) into the power zone..
"C'mon baby, kick my a##......oh there it is....now let's GO!!"

Dirty foreplay....what!!?? She had me all strapped in and excicted...
Yup....(raising hand) I talk to my kites...

greasehopper - 9-3-2013 at 11:58 PM

We don't talk much anymore, we just know what each other are thinking so we all concentrate on staying ahead of the wind. Occasionally we play evil tricks on each other just to keep it interesting. However, at the end of the day, we all know we'd be useless without each other.

Kamikuza - 10-3-2013 at 02:54 AM

I mostly just talk in general - yee haa's and things... much like snowspider.

I used to referee inline hockey competitions... on one of the kid's teams there was a wee man who'd skate around with the puck making "Nee naw, nee naw" ambulance noises just loud enough to be heard if you were next to him

pyro22487 - 10-3-2013 at 03:02 AM

Yea me too.

bigkid - 10-3-2013 at 10:35 AM

I like it when my kite and lines sing as we zoom zoom down the beach, makes me break out in song, wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss:singing::singing::singing::singing::D

Tim, When a wild animal kills a human, we hunt down the animal and kill it. When a kite kills a human, I run the entire kite, bridle, lines, handles and bag, through the shredder. When the kite severely injures a human it is not sold. I would hate for the kite to do it again, you never know what goes on in the mind of a psychopath.

When the lines 'sing' it always makes me smile :) Means I've got some decent wind behind me, which is always a nice thing.

Oh yeah, absolutely. I wasn't suggesting selling it on to another when I said get rid of it! I would probably dispose of it I guess.
