PTW passenger bench seat

RedSky - 9-3-2013 at 08:10 PM

I made this seat today. Very simple.
I mentioned in another thread that my kitesurfing friend and I need to walk a mile to the sea when the tide is out.

This seat means I can ferry us out there. I'm also looking for volunteers for the 'one buggy, one kite, one passenger' category challenge.

Maybe I need to get a life.

Looks pretty good ! :) Wouldn't want to be on that when you're out doing one of your speed runs :P

Does it not off balance the buggy a bit, or is that not an issue ??

Yeah.... looks a tad sketchy for speed runs. Have always wondering if there was enough room if you removed the backplate (the one that says "PTW Custom Buggies"), if there was enough room for a rearward facing "jump seat". The something like the arrangement you have pictured could be used for a foot brace.

You mean something like this? Remember these....If you were the one in the back while your buddy drove you'd remember....Scary in Reverse.

I tested it today with a kitesurfer on the back and a fellow buggier, not at the same time.

I gave the kitesurfer a taxi ride to the sea over a mile away and it worked very well. Saved him about 20-30 minutes walking through standing water and soft sand with his board, kite and pump.

The buggier had walked half way to the sea to borrow my pump, so I gave him a lift back. For him it worked fine but the freezing water kicked up onto the bench by the cambered beach racers gave him brain freeze and he nearly passed out.

The kitesurfer had a wetsuit with hood and didn't complain. It was very cold yesterday. 4c max with a 25mph wind chill. Damn!

You'd be right to worry about doing a speed run on the back of any buggy especially at my beach. Having someone on the back makes it impossible to powerslide to slow and stop in the normal way.

You'd be sitting on my bench doing 50mph and we'd have no choice but to turn into the sea at that speed. Lol. I'm under no illusions and I've said it before,... all the glory for such an attempt goes to the guy hanging off the back. :)

That's a great idea and that's exactly what I'm going to try and do next. I just need an old plastic office chair, take the legs off it and mount it somehow. Watch this space. :D
Thanks Sam,

Thanks Sam,

No problem... my mind tends to spend most of it's time just a wee bit left of center (well, sometimes more than a bit wee). ;)

I never realised I had made such a useful buggy, I think you need to show your Dominator Transporter for your Kite Cat video Tom
