Last snowkite session of the season?

bobalooie57 - 25-3-2013 at 03:21 PM

Well, with next weekend expected to be in the 50's, we might have got our last snowkite session on Saturday.

Were those kites doing a line dance at 28sec? Bob come down to Sylvan beach this saturday or sunday if the wind is blowing. I'm putting wheels back on the buggy got a feeling it will be bare soft ice , should be a blast!

We still have a few weeks here. This last week has been prime for spring riding.

Definitely the last session for me! Check 2:10. It doesn't look that bad, but it was :-(

I have a lot of faith in soft powder , but when you get all wadded up like that somethings got to give. What a sad way to end the season.

For those who are looking to explore NH's White Mountains, and snowkiting, the season really has just begun!

More than 28 inches of snow has fallen in the last week above treeline!

Snowkiting is absolutely awesome!

However knowing where, when, and how to kite in mountainous terrain is not simple here in NH

Anyone looking for guided ascents with and without kites get in touch.

radakovicrad I like the effect with the kite trail in the air, very cool. Your conditions look pretty good from here.;-)

We'll get a solid 2 weeks out of the local lake riding. Fast conditions in the morning with cruising conditions in the heat of the day. We'll be well into April just north of here.

Here's a shot from Tuesday....

@snowspider, yeah at 0:23 Jan loses a ski, and then he and Cesar cross lines. I wouldn't have included it, but I was using regular batteries instead of the reccommended "Ultimate Lithiums" and in the cold, they only lasted about 6 minutes total, so I used what I had. Busy Saturday, and Sunday's wind looks like it's light from the South. I don't know if that works for Sylvan Beach. I do plan on going to Southwick next Wednesday, winds are predicted W or WSW at around 15mph. I haven't been there yet, so I don't know what the condition of the beach will be, but temps are supposed to be around 40 deg.F, so if you can make it dress warm!

Think I got my last snowkite skunk of the season, went up and found nothing. Thank goodness proletariat just had to go fly his phanny15 when I got home. Ended up flying a phantom for the first time, as well as a first ride on a TRAMPA. (good god they are sexxy flexxy).

I look forward to seeing those others capture the last snow and ice runs.

I get to check out late season conditions on my local lake today. I think this sets a record for latest solid ice around here? Almost no snow left on the ground, but the thinning / thawing patterns should be the same regardless of our unusual year ...

snowspider - 31-3-2013 at 08:21 PM

Sunday not a single ice fisherman on Oneida at Sylvan beach, crumbly edges , foot wide cracks , various open water every where on the lake. All it needs is a big wind to clear it all off and I can put the boat in the water.

End of season snowkiting (slush riding)

Got mine on the 29th of march.

Overall, it was a good snowkiting season for most of us in our area (SW Ontario) when compared to past couple of seasons.

Last session will be next weekend, if it doesn't rain too badly...:(
If you'd waterski on the ice, you could propably stretch it out a few weeks.
The season started and ended quite late, here.

Feyd - 18-4-2013 at 05:12 AM

I'm calling my local (within a 1.5hr drive) snowkite season done as of today. We could probably make it through the weekend but during yesterday's session I saw some ice that was questionable and will be completely unsafe by the weekend. The ice is still thick but its turned to candle ice and it's not consistently sound IMO.

As the wife say's, if we have to wear PFDs to snowkite the season is pretty much done.

4 months is a pretty decent season here. Not our longest but not our shortest.:tumble:

Scouted a couple fields this morning and looks like Im not getting any sessions in till things dry up. So Monday after work was my last session. I agree those coloured trailings following the kite were pretty slick editing. Looks like a fun spot to kite. Too bad that you had to end your season like that. Wish you quick healing. :saint:

Great vid! Absolutely love the scenery, I'm always drawn to mountains since we have none in Wisconsin. Thanks for posting.

Funny, sometimes after living in the mountains for all these years I miss living in Wisconsin. In the winter the sun sets around 3pm with the mountains to the west of me. And comes up late with the range to the east. I miss being able to see the horizon.
