Assuming I actually DO get to the point where I can maintain motion in the buggy by the time I get to JIBE, I can envision a situation where a faster
rig is overtaking me.
Just thinking through where everything would have to go to avoid entanglement, I see the faster buggy pilot hailing the one being overtaken, passing
on the lee
(Downwind) side with his kite flying below the other one. This could entail the slower buggy needing to raise their kite to allow clearance.
I suppose you could also pass on the weather (upwind) side and raise your kite above the slower one. This might actually be easier, I suppose, but
then I have NO experience on which to base such a call.
Is there a different procedure, and/or some specific hailing phrase (LOUDLY, please, I'm quite hard of hearing!) that is commonly used?
Also, it's possible that not everyone will use the same marks for coming about, and if the buggy in front of you does so unexpectedly, things could
get interesting!
Is it common to call out "Gybe, ho!" or something else to give the others a warning before you do your kite twirl and power slide bit?
Will there be a daily riders meeting at JIBE to go over this sort of thing, or is it just every man for himself?

There is always an "easy way" to pass another buggier. Upwind downwind isn't critical. Each pilot makes an adjustment to their kite if necessary,
but usually the faster pilot works around the slower one. Sometimes raising your kite can actually complicate things. Both kites are using the same
wind so they usually can pass while flying at the same angle. Usually just a nudge to make sure lines clear is all it takes.indigo_wolf - 2-4-2013 at 06:06 AM

That answered a lot of questions.
I see that, in order to avoid a possible conflict with the "windward pilot give way" rule, it's probably better to pass on the windward/weather/
upwind side when possible.
The catch all last rule is necessary, and when everyone knows what they're doing, is probably all you need.
Absent perfect knowledge, it's good to have some common practices.
I expect to spend (at least) the first day at JIBE in the novice practice area for the safety of my fellow participants.
That said, if you see a guy being dragged past by a giant, all white Rev, wave and say "Hi!"

It can be nearly impossible to hear anything - especially if you're heading into a head wind at reasonable speed. Keep you're eyes peeled and your
head on a swivel. I have a good look at the person coming towards me and make a decision early whether I'm going to move downwind and keep my kite
low or stay upwind and raise my kite.

Sam, Thanks for that leaflet, its really good! I posted it on KC, and the guys like it too. One of them asked if it's for free public use, as he
would like to print some to give out in the summer.
What should I tell him ?

Tell him to print away. I think we decided early on that free distribution was a no brainer. Pass along to your favorite friends, meerkats, etc.
I should probably talk to Rich and Dan about giving it a permanent official home. It's just that a lot of personal issues have kept me from staying
on top of things.
