Hardwater Kiting Global Speed Ranking 2013 FINAL RESULTS.

Feyd - 2-4-2013 at 02:42 PM

Well I can't believe it's been 13 weeks of speed ranking already. We got to see a lot of variety in kites, speeds, conditions and locations. Gary Kjelleren threw down his one entry of over 65mpy and stayed comfortably in the top throughout the whole ranking. Well done Gary.

There were a lot of personal bests out there and we were glad to be able to provide a place for everyone to share their efforts and accomplishments.

We appreciate the support form those who participated and we look forward to seeing you all next winter. We will have it a bit more refined next season but we feel it went well this year in spite of the impromptu manner in which we pulled it together.

In the meantime we are going through the weekly top spots and will be contacting the weekly winners to get their shirt sizes so we can get that ball rolling.

We will also be sending out some other goodies we have from Peter Lynn and HQ to people we pick at random.

Thanks again everyone, it was a great season.

-Chris

Liquid Force users take 3 spots in top 5 ..... wow ..... and as we all can see snowboard results end up far down on this list .... I will try to get some speed runs next year ..... would love to pass 40mph mark .....
... Good job Chriss .... Thanks for providing space on you site and taking care all those entries ....

Thanks Chris for all the hard work you put into this. It was alot of fun pushing myself in a way I haven't done yet. I will say that I have a new found respect for the speeds that others put up. I thought I went fast in past years until I bought a GPS...that's when reality told me otherwise. I can at least leave winter in peace knowing that I finally achieved my goal of 40mph this year.:wee:

Yes, thanks again to Chris for setting this up and maintaining the results and incoming data for 13 weeks !!
Looking forward to the next season.

What about the honorary mention for the most efficient kite and perhaps a rider too, :-) ? (Just kidding about the rider)
I believe winner was J-N Luis 10m foil with the rider to wind speed ratio of 2.89 !

Looks like we have about a month on the ice to go here. I will be in Hatteras for some of that though. :spin:

This looks like fun. I carried a GPS with me for most of my sessions this winter. I somehow managed to crack the display as well, but it still works. Had I known about this I might have posted some results.

I generally don't care much for feeling overpowered or going crazy fast. I didn't have much experience coming into this winter but I did get out a lot this year. Next year I will look to top 40mph. Guess my personal best is probably from this session...

April 1, 2013
Wind 16-20mph
Old pair of skis
Surface: "rough, firm, late season ice"
Kite: Slingshot B3, 3m fixed bridle.
Max. speed: 37.8mph.

Breaking 40mph will be something to shoot for next year.

Chris,

When is this years speed ranking going to start?

Feyd - 17-12-2013 at 02:58 AM

Thanks for asking Cheddar.

Dec 31st is the official opening day.

We're trying to figure out a way to integrate smart phon'e app users into the ranking. The consensus is that the cell phones are not accurate enough but if all the cell phones are in competition with each other then its a level field.:D Last year we turned away a lot of participants on phones. We'd like to give everyone a chance to play.

Thanks Chris:thumbup:

I agree, you hate to turn anybody away but need to make it an even playing field also. I admire your emphasis on participation and not just competition. It welcomes the newbies like myself to join in and feel less intimidated by the speed dogs at the top of the pack. I'm pretty stoked to see how everybody does this year, should be fun!
