Can't decide which LW kite to buy

williamstanhope - 20-6-2013 at 05:07 PM

I am looking to buy a light wind kite I'm hung up on 3 different options the 17m Slingshot turbine, Cabrinha crossbow 18m and the 17m Crazyfly I did use the crossbow when I was getting lessons but I didn't like the slow reaction. Any input you guys can give me would be helpful.

I love the 17m Ozone Zephyr .. picking up the 2013 model soon for the summer winds coming up.

Ocean Rodeo Flite 17.5 :)

If you want a fast kite, this is one. I think the 18m XB will have a bit more on the bottom end, but the Flite turns like my 13m XB!!! Float is awesome, like a FSer ;)

Another fast 17m is the Blade erm, Fat Lady? I think it is...

Ozone Edges will have better bottom end too but I don't know how fast they are...

What do you guys think about the 21m fly surfer does it have good water relaunch ability, and what wind range am I looking at.

Kamikuza - 21-6-2013 at 05:06 AM

Yes, but it's slower than any of the other kites put together  for sure, you'll have more low-end and more hang-time... but... if you're asking about water relaunch, you may not appreciate the quirks of FSers.

... Flite relaunch is excellent. I really gotta get out with a camera on my helmet eh!

Thanks for the suggestions so far I'm kind of leaning towards the Ocean Rodeo Flite . I was also looking at the Cabrinha Switchblade 16m, would that be a good light wind kite for someone who weighs about 90kg. The winds here in Nassau average about 7kts to about 30kts in the summer.

Nvm switchblade not worth it.

I got a chance to ride the 17 meter Cloud a couple of days ago. I'm impressed. It was light, around 8-10 knots. I tried it with a twin tip and also fish surfboard. It's SUPER quick turning for a 17 meter. It's great pulling IF you are careful how you sheet it. It has a REALLY small depower throw range. that's not saying small depower range, it's just that if you push the bar to far, the kite flutters, then the drag of the fluttering drops he kite back into the window. Nothing bad, just finess your kite flying. Once you get the feel, it's a great kite.
I highly recommend it!

There's a review on kiteforum.com of the Core XR2 17 LW, saying is doesn't have very good low end... go for the 19!

Say, what about the Peter Lynn Fury (?) 19? Ah whoops, Carl beat me to it :)

buzzinasia on here, uses SB16 as his light wind kite... ask him about it.
