No shoes, no supplies, no oxygen and he planned to come down somewhere in Oregon? So without shoes he couldn't hike to a road, without supplies he
had no way to keep warm, dry, fed and hydrated, and without a rope he couldn't self rescue from the tree.
The article may be lacking in detail but it looked like he planned to call for a rescue from the start since he was totally unprepared for what
happens after he landed. I hope he was charged for the rescue.
He 's lucky he didn't suffocate for lack of oxygen. They'd still be looking for the body.
