I am all for access, but the petition is a little misleading. I thought the committee reversed there decision about including kitesurfing in the 2016 Olympics.

Time line .....
1. Kitesurfing is included in 2016 Olympics ,,,,
2. NY Parks ban kiteboarding because of above event will bring lots of extra kites to the beaches ( mostly because windsurfers start kiting )
3. Kitesurfing no longer part of Olympics ....
4. Everyday kiters are F@#$%d because ban is still in effect .....

.... thats what I think just happened ....

HOLY COW! Is someone really trying to get this ban lifted? That would be amazing. Abkayak if you find out something new or anything I can do to help please let me know. This is very exciting!

Hey kober thank for bringing this to out attention. I just posted this link everywhere I could think of. Problem is I don't think this will really make a difference. No one will ever read this and lift the ban. correct me if im wrong.

It's true I haven't been to Southwick Beach State Park since April, when I spent the better part of a day buggying the beach while 4 or 5 guys were out on the water, getting some big air! Must be the parks people up here haven't heard of the ban, as the park was open, collecting cash to enter, and no-one stopped any of us from having fun! C'mon up!

zalex820 - 22-7-2013 at 08:47 AM

bobalooie - I wish I could come up there. Near me in NYC these cops and parks dept people are insane! They dont want to hear anything, they just want to write, write and write.I was just talking about this to my fiance the other day and I told her I want to move to place with a huge backyard or at least big open fields so i can wake up go go out to buggy or ATB or kiteboard butt a$$ naked haha.

bobalooie57 - 22-7-2013 at 09:03 AM

After Memorial Day, when they start with the Lifeguard patrols at Southwick, you must head south into the Lakeview Wildlife Management Area, in order to buggy or access the water to kiteboard. Usually it's not too crowded, and you only need to walk about a half mile or so. The best part is, the further south you go(and you can go about 3 miles), the less clothes some folks wear! :o

zalex820 - 22-7-2013 at 09:12 AM

Walking a half mile does not sound fun with a full boarding setup or a buggy for that matter. But I guess whatever works. As far as the people and clothing is concerned I bet it's also a bunch of guys chasing the one poor blonde down the beach, just like in the movie euro trip

zalex820 - 22-7-2013 at 09:54 AM

I am not sure if above petition will help in anyway to remove ban ....... but ..... its better to try do something then just seat and wait .......
,,.,, Who knows ..... maybe it will be signed by so many people that Park officials will look at this again and make "rules" for kiters instead of ban ....

... I posted links in few places on Facebook .... and I am happy to see so many kiters I know sign it from all surrounding states .... I am not sure who is running this operation .... but I hope they know what to do with it when its all ready to go ..... and know someone in "main office" that they can talk too ....

When traveling ... I see many beaches with designated kite launch that keeps kiters in one place and keeps beach goers away from them ..... Most of time its very small and you need to stock kites when landed..... but its better to have those then none ....

If any of those issues start popping out in NJ I am sure my crew " NJ Kite Addicts " will try to establish some type of communication between officials and local kiters ... I think it makes big different when you knock to office door as a "organized group" then just some kiter with few friends ....
