looking for 2011 and newer smaller size closed foil depowerable kite (got a nice deal for a Montana 4 - 9.5m )

Kiteflyer933 - 1-8-2013 at 11:34 AM

Hi people, I'm a recent flyer of FB 3.5m HQ Hydra 2...interested to try a small to medium size depowerable kite for this coming Winter season to play in frozen lake. Anyone who wants to clear out their closet of their small but mint condition depowers, please let me know...cheers!

sorry , it always put a smile on my face when someone comes on and asks for a de-powerable kite - that is just sitting unused gathering dust but has to be in excellent condition and cheap price.

I'll check somewhere behind the big piles of un-used cash that I have just laying around and I don't know what to do with it

sorry didn't mean to poke fun. I'm guessing if most people have a good de-powerable kite they are likely using it - where are you located, you might find a good option close to home if there are a lot of winter kiters or a small second hand LEI that you can use in winter - tons of those around.

Modify the Hydra

Another option is to have the Hydra Modified.

I'm a powerkite newbie and 3.5m Hydra 2 is my first kite...I find it so nice to play with (body dragging at the lake and static dragging at the soccer field), and does not like to alter it original design, because I think a FB kite is far different from Depowers...I want to keep both bicycle and motorcycle as my toys...I just want to try a cheaper depowerable to see if I will like it and how much power I can handle (180lbs body weight at 15-35Kph wind in Belleville) before buying a latest brand and costly kite like Charger 2 or NEO 3...I'm planning to ski at frozen Quintebay and Wellington beach this coming Jan-March 2014...if no luck after a Month of looking, I might just buy a new but cheaper brand like Pansh Aurora kite....any tips is greatly appreciated...cheers!

A cheap depower will not be a valid test if you are going to like depowers. You are much less likely to like a cheap one that was either used a lot and/or is many models old. Could be stretched in places or have design issues that have been resolved in more recent models. Definitely stay away from the aurora as your first depower. Those that have the experience to get it working its best wont be so impressed and you won't have the experience to source an appropriate bar and lines and get it all adjusted properly to fly its best.

A bit more money than cheap will be your happy place to test it out.

Once again sage advice from Bob !

The Pansh Aurora ( + Blaze II ) does not come with a bar so you must buy your own and tune it to their kite. Pansh has promised an RTF package but have never come through with a bar.

Expect the pulleys to fail 1st time they see sand . Like mine did ! Don't expect any instruction or response from Pansh after your purchase. At least they shut me out ?

I would say shop for quality used before going new and bargain priced. From personal experience. Used Flysurfers from trusted sellers are a far better deal !

Where are you located? There may be some other kiters in your neighborhood that would be willing to help you have a go at depower without having to commit to purchase yet...

Thanks a lot for tips Bob and Blade!...I'm here at Belleville, Ontario (Quintebay)...30min drive to Sandbanks (Wellington beach)...2.5 hrs drive to Toronto...So anyone willing to sell their smaller mint condition depowers, I'm here...or willing to let me try out their smaller depowers and I'll share my Hydra 2 in return, + shots of my favorite brandy after playing to warm up...cheers!:singing

Hey Welcome to another fellow from Ontario. Blake is on here once in a while and he's in Trenton and pedals Pansh kites and would be a good person to talk to for any deals close by. May or may not be some used but Pansh are cheap to begin with.
If you are looking for Peter Lynn kites I can help you out.
There are a lot of guys surfing Sandbanks and a lot more winter access (come up to Rice lake for the annual winter event at the Elmhirst).
Usually anything de-powerable second hand in the area is either going to be well used or a kite that people aren't that happy with so they are passing it along.
I'll keep an eye out in the area and will let you know if i see anything - drop me a U2U and I can give you some more info for options around here.

Hey it's not new but 2004 Ozone Frenzy - 7m complete for 250.00 from Alberta

see other thread: http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=26400
link to list of gear: http://www.animatters.com/uploads/kiting/GarageSale/

Bladerunner - 3-8-2013 at 08:02 AM

If you can hook up with Blake it would be very worthwhile. He knows his depower kites . The one person who can see that you get the most out of a Pansh.

That gear Revpaul is selling is as good of deals as you will find. The 7m Frenzy will be a good start but will leave you wanting for a larger kite soon. If you go for it do so expecting to need a second larger kite down the road.

Slightly cheaper shipping within Canada.

Kiteflyer933 - 6-8-2013 at 08:47 PM

Anyone can tell me if $550 + ship is fair price for 2010 PL Charger? Condition on the pictures seemed good, color is not faded and bar/lines also not faded and smooth...but has 3 minor repairs and repaired by professional store...two small rip is in the lower wing foil and the other rip is in the tip where the folding bars are inserted....will it affect the aerodynamics of the kite?....Thanks for inputs.:puzzled

Bladerunner - 7-8-2013 at 06:54 AM

Tough call.

I would not be rushing into this deal but I am not a huge fan of the Charger or the Navigator bar so it is definitely my own opinion. The 15m Charger is a nice size and if you are after an aggressive kite it will please.

The price is about right shipped ?
