Use a harness all the time?

SecondWind - 12-10-2006 at 06:23 AM

Do you always use your harness when buggying?

I still feel more "connected" to the kite when flying without being hooked in.

Just curious how you fly...

With me, I only use my harness for those long runs where the arms just get too warn out to hold the kite. Hook in and ride with the kite pretty much parked. If I want to work the kite or get more aggressive, I always unhook from the harness. The harness seems to just get in the way when you want to work the kite hard for max speeds. Usually with my style of riding I will fly unhooked most of the time and only hook in when I want to take it easy or dont want to get warn out.

Most of the buggiers in our group ride the same way (that I have noticed).

Yup. All the time. Then again, I am a bit lazy by nature.

DaVinch,
A bit of clarification...

Most of us WEAR our harnesses all the time,
but we are only HOOKED-IN when it is appropriate.

Fixed-bridle foils, flown on handles, do not NEED to be attached to a harness.
The strop connecting the tops of the handles is used (in the hook) whenever one wants to be in the harness.
Taking a bit more of the pressure with your arms allows the strop to fall free of the hook, giving the flyer even more control.

Have I muddied the waters sufficiently?
Or would you like me to repeat this in Spanish?

OK that is what I was thinking - thanks for all the help,

Now...my next question is how many of you belt yourself to the buggy to get some air.

I've been pulled out a few times and I'm not ready to be strapped in yet:lol:

I find that unless the wind is really light, I'm always hooked in, nice deep buggy, gobbs of power, If I fly without hooking in, the pull's from the shoulders, If I hook in, the pull's nice and low by the buggy rails. way easier to stay in the bug and way easier to slide instead of flipping.

Usually I'll unhook for the last lil bit of a session though, just to give the arms a nice little workout.

Zloty
I've seen your pics and they are fantastic. The pics with two of you on buggies in mid-air in formation are awsome.

It leads me to ask how you are attached to the buggy? Can you cut yourself loose if need be. I was thinking of some way to hold myself in by bracing with knees or thigh muscles, so I could let go if needed (like I flipped). Have you treid something like this?

Thanks

Cool pics Zloty - I'm interested in your setup as well. Can we see some pictures of your Buggy close up?

You can zoom it by cliking all size for details. Some people use ,,seatbelts'' across conecting siderails with quick realise.

Note that before You strap Your self to buggy You have to be expert in flying Your kite ,be confident with rideing backwards, side power sliding, have some quick release system to ,,loose'' Your kite and know well how to jump flying static of course.
