The End of Kitesurfing As We Know It?

Sier_Pinski - 11-9-2013 at 07:28 PM

If these gas-powered surfboards gain traction, there's the worrying possibility they will outnumber and replace the glorious kitesurfing/windsurfing master race.

Mr. Clean Energy here hoping this will not be the case. :ninja:

Anyways, what is your take on this invention?

I don't see this as something that would have anything at all to do with taking over from people that love wind sports. No desire to replace the one on one with wind and water and nature with a motor. Same reason I kite buggy and don't race around the desert or beach on an ATV, same reason I kite ski or snowboard on a lake and not riding a snowmobile, kiteboarding and not riding a jet ski - nothing against them, just different.

I think I may have forgot to add "/sarcasm" to my original post.

I would love to try it .... but it will not provide same joy that you have when kiteboarding and getting big air .... also ... surfers will never replace traditional board with this ... It just another toy ... thats all

Pricey too. The prices I've found were $12500 for the cheapest all the way to $19500 for a pro model. Could definitely have a nice kite quiver or two for those prices.

Just looked up prices. $12,000 up to almost $20,000--as much as a moderately-sized boat. :o

1st design was made in 1965!!! I saw one of these for sale here on Craigslist last year- should have at least gone and looked at it!

nothing beats wind power.
yes i do love gas powered sports.
but wind power will always be my first choise of power.
if there was a way i could buggy or land sail to work i would.

You have to be able to surf. Much easier to jump on a wetbike and annoy absolutely everyone.
