Caught by a gust and ripped my dick off :(

I couldn't resist catching your attention

I was out with my 13m VII today and got caught by a big gust after a lull (typical Prairie wind). I heard velcro rip and all of a sudden I was fully powered up riding unhooked - donkey dick no longer attached to the chicken loop. I have a PL spinning spreader bar and I guess my chicken loop twisted in the lull and the gust pulled everything around and ripped the dick right out of the chicken loop. Glad I was on land and found the missing part.

I could not find anything to show the correct installation of the errant part on my Zero 4 bar so I would appreciate it if you ARC gurus could check the photo and tell me if I put it back correctly. I did sandwich the velcro tab between the pieces attached to the loop.

I locked down my spinning hook after that happened to me. That's pretty scary to have an angry depower just hanging there in your hands. When it happened, I realizes how the Oh S*&t handles got their name. One smooth grab and she floated to the ground.

Yeah I manage to unhook myself on a regular basis too - usually, I just can't hold on and the kite goes to safety. Last time though, I managed to get the kite controlled and grab the CL with one hand and hook back in. On my 18m kite :D

What is the donkey dick thing for anyhow? Looks like all depower bars have them, at least all my bars have them, but they don't seem to do anything, nor are they moveable. Mine appear to be screwed into the middle of the yoke, but that's it, no Velcro.

The donkey is used to prevent your chicken loop from becoming unhooked. This video shows you what to do.

If you use the donkey dick to hook in, make sure you practice your chicken loop emergency release so that you can still unhook when you want to.

The last session I had with my Phantom on the buggy resulted in my Donkey Dick releasing prematurely twice ! It must get rubbed by my belly and just pops back out through the spreader hole.

The 1st time it happened it took me a second to decide what to do. Second time I just grabbed the Red Knob and pulled it back into the Spreader like Casanova !
But I am flying with a zero 7 ! ;)
:P

Oh, I get it now, the donkey dick pushes out on the ring keeping the ring hooked into the crossover bar by that pressure...

learn something new every day.. it just means I'm still alive.

haha

I hate that '07 donkey dick. That thing came off probably half a dozen times with that poorly designed Velcro. Just got a Flysurfer Infinity2.0 bar with a rigid dick (sorry!) and I'm much happier now :)
