Ivanpah promises to be dusty tomorrow

BeamerBob - 24-9-2013 at 09:53 PM

Forecast is showing 18-39 building to 28-44, then the big winds come in at 32 gusting to 51 mph. Brian and I are going down early and maybe some others to assist. My goals are different than Brian's. I'll be happy with a PB, but my goal is to pass 70 mph. I've been over 60 about 8 times now and would like to step it up to the next level. Hopefully we'll have some good news to post up.

Be safe and go like hell. I'll check back here 2mrw. Oh and please get some video, even if it's just setting up. I need to see that place in the wind.

Hoping to hear how it went ?

The wind blew hard at times but we never seemed to be in the right place or going the right direction. 2 blasts over 40 happened while we were settin g up kites. I learned that at 40 mph, you have to lean into the wind, so file that one away when you are estimating winds. Brian and I were both running in the low 50s but neither one of us really hooked up with a big push.

Ivanpah is in better condition than I remember for the last several years. Some spots are buttery smooth and even the worst spots are just a little rumble. I haven't found any areas that are uncomfortably rough like the SW corner has been for the last year or so.

Pops, I got some video. It's nothing special, but I'll see if there is something decent to show you for a lakebed fix.

But don't lean into it too much as the lulls will have you on your face. Shame about the wind not cooperating.
There will be other days and the PB's and records will fall, it's just a matter of when. Look forward to the footage.
